This is a collaborative challenge for all CLTs. As you follow along with the story, you will be given specific tasks or challenges to complete as a team. Your team's ability to collaborate, be creative, to learn together and be prompt are strategies for success.
The story of Around Google in 80 Days will unfold throughout the first semester. Each new installment or "chapter" of the story will be revealed on this site on specific days according to the story. An email announcing the next "chapter" will be sent to all Woodson teachers.
The chapter will present the story line and an accompanying challenge for the CLT. The challenge is based on a Google Tool. There will be at least one tool specifically targeted in each challenge. However, teams can use multiple digital tools as needed to creatively complete the challenge. The tools in this game are:
Because the objective is to completely circumnavigate in 80 days, progress is based on the number of days it will take to reach each destination. The following table shows the EXPECTED travel time as planned in the novel. However, if teams complete challenges early they will remove 1 or 2 days off their time. Conversely, if teams are late with their challenge, they will add 1 or 2 days to their travel time and need to recoup those days later in the challenge. Progress is shown on a chart. (Does not include any weekends.)
Each time a team completes a challenge, they will receive the ticket stub showing they have traveled to the destination and mastered the Google tool. Individuals can receive special recognition for individual accomplishments within the challenge. Teams should receive 8 ticket stubs by the end of the game.
For teams having trouble maintaining the correct speed around the globe, there will be opportunities in the game to "catch up" to other teams. Watch for these throughout the game.
