BIOGRAPHY
Emmanuelle Volle is a PI in the Frontlab team at the ICM and a neurologist. She received a Medical Doctor’s Thesis and an advanced degree in Neurology in 2003, a diploma in Neuropsychology (2000), an MSc in Neurosciences (2001), and a Ph.D. in Neurosciences of the Paris 6 University in 2007. She did a post-doctoral training at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL. She obtained a permanent position at INSERM in 2011. She has currently a leadership position in the Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity, and is a member of the Gender Equity Committee of the Paris Brain Institute.
RESEARCH WORK
My current research aims to understand the neurocognitive mechanisms of high-level cognitive functions such as creativity, problem-solving, and reasoning: How do creative ideas emerge? How do we solve novel problems or adapt to new situations?
To this aim, I combine various cognitive neuroscience methods, combining experimental psychology with neuroimaging approaches, such as functional MRI, brain connectivity, network sciences, voxel-based morphometry, electrophysiology, brain electrostimulation, and, importantly, patient studies. I am also interested in developing clinical applications to better evaluate or predict high-level cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric diseases.
