Arabella Bouzigues

I am currently a PhD student at the FrontLab, Paris Brain Institute. My work focuses on frontotemporal dementia patients and the effects their pathology has on cognitive abilities and functional connectivity.

Research topics

Following my undergraduate degree at Durham University (UK) in Experimental/Cognitive Psychology, I graduated from the Dual Masters in Brain and Mind Sciences at UCL Institute of Neurology (London) and l'Université Pierre et Marie Curie & l'ENS (Paris).

The aim of my PhD research, supervised by Dr Lara Migliaccio, is to understand at what stage functional connectivity is impacted in the disease course and what implications this may have for its potential use as a biomarker in future clinical trials. The overall objective of this work is to improve the early detection, differential diagnosis and monitoring of such neurodegenerative disorders. The findings of such work contribute to our understanding of this complex group of conditions and to the progression of clinical trials for therapeutic treatments.

I am also the lead coordinator of the GENetic Frontotemporal dementia Initiative (GENFI) which is a consortium of nearly 30 sites across Europe and Canada collecting data in individuals carrying FTD-causing mutations. In the last 10 years, we have collected data of over 1000 patients and presymptomatic individuals across the world who come for annual visits. I coordinate the international sites to enable harmonised data collection as well as parsing the data ready to be used in different research analysis work.
