Yesterday, Amanda and I made an excursion to the 7-11 near her place so I could finally acquire this year’s new Mountain Dew Baja flavors: Baja Point Break Punch and Baja Laguna Lemonade.

You guys know I have a particular fondness for the punchy flavors, so I decided to try Baja Point Break Punch first. I brought a bottle of it to work today and cracked it open during my first break.

Folks… I was not prepared. I expected it to be good, because the Baja flavors always are, but I was not expecting to fall so deeply and passionately in love at first sip. I was not expecting the way my heart swelled with emotion as my taste buds were boldly caressed with such daring deliciousness. In that moment, it was hard to believe that the world was still spinning like normal, because my entire universe had just been thrown out of whack, and now I had to adjust to this shocking but exciting new reality.

So, what does this magical elixir taste like, I’m sure you’re wondering. Since it’s a Baja flavor, part of it is of course Baja Blast. The rest is reminiscent of a different Mountain Dew flavor: the original tropical punch Dew, Typhoon. This is truly one hell of a combination, since Baja Blast is a unique masterpiece, and Typhoon was my favorite Dew flavor for 14 years.

Yes, you read that correctly. Was. Past tense. As of today, the champion who has reigned since 2010 has been officially unseated in my personal rankings. As of today, I have a new favorite Mountain Dew flavor.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again— Baja Blast makes everything better. With Baja Point Break Punch, they basically mixed my previous favorite with Baja Blast, so naturally I was powerless against its charms. Apparently perfection can be improved upon after all, at least where Mountain Dew is concerned.

I know I am going to be absolutely, utterly devastated at the end of this summer when I have to say goodbye, but for now, I’m just basking in the honeymoon-esque euphoria. I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE MOUNTAIN DEW FLAVOR!!!!!!!
