Graduated in teaching French as a second language, I have welcomed many foreign children in my 5th grade class for the last 8 years. I have also developed the teaching of English through other subjects in France.This year, I had the pleasure of teaching 1st grade in Edgemont elementary school in Utah! I am so glad to share this experience with colleagues during this training!
Immersion Consultant and Classroom Teacher at South Academy of International Languages in Charlotte, NC. I have been working in immersion environments in various school settings in Latin America and the USA for 25 years. Since 2004, I have been committed to the South Academy of International Languages in Charlotte, NC, as a German classroom teacher and immersion facilitator for all of our four languages. Recently, I gained the status of Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Calgary through a research project on reading in immersion programs. I am honored to share some of my work at this summer institute!
Blake Ramsey is a French Dual Language Teacher Trainer, Coordinator, and Curriculum Developer with Expertise France, and is currently based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to this role, he was the founding French Dual Language Program Coordinator and teacher at Public Middle School Fort Greene Preparatory Academy in Brooklyn, NY. He has serviced the communities of four NYC Department of Education Public Schools as a French Dual Language Program Coordinator (K-5; 6-12; 6-8), Language Acquisition Instructional Coach (6-12), Literacy Coach (K-5) and French Dual Language Teacher (4-10). In 2022 he was a New York City Big Apple Teaching Award Finalist. His practice is grounded in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Equity in Education.
Carina Sandrini-Cooke has been a French Dual Language teacher in a NYC Department of Education Public School for the past 9 years. In that time, she has taught in both Kindergarten and Second Grade immersion classrooms. As a certified teacher mentor, she works with newly hired dual language teachers to support their professional growth and learning by providing resources for planning units and lessons as well as reflections on teaching practice. She has led seminars for dual language and immersion Kindergarten teachers on implementing and incorporating writing workshop and balanced literacy components into curricula.
Emilie Nolf is the founder and CEO of Agate formation - a training center for French teachers teaching in a multilingual context. In addition to a broad 20-year teaching experience (from pre-K to 12th grade), she's also accumulated more than 10 years of experience as a professional coach and education consultant for teachers, international schools and international schools associations. She has recently received the Academic Palms (a.k.a Palmes Académiques), awarding her expertise in bilingualism.
Marie-Francoise Guizonne has been teaching for the past 4 years, in 4th grade, at the same elementary school in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She comes from Guadeloupe, where she taught for 19 years in cycles 2 and 3. She was a coordinator in French Language, Science, and Technology and has been a teacher educator (Maître Formateur) in that academy as well before being an Immersion Teacher with the CODOFIL program.
Michael Vo has been teaching 4th grade for six years in Atlanta, GA; this past year, he taught both 4th and 5th grade DLI. He serves as a teacher leader in DLI and mathematics instruction at his school, and he informally serves as a teacher support coach. He is also a doctoral candidate at Georgia State University where his research interests focus on DLI education, mathematics instruction, and equity.
Nathalie Charles serves as Program Officer for Institut Français des Etats-Unis-Villa Albertine. She is the creator and director of CinéSchool, an innovative program designed to introduce French and Francophone cinema to students from Kindergarten to 12th grade in the United States. Additionally, she is involved in organizing and curating Films on the Green, an annual outdoor French film festival that showcases classic and contemporary French movies in New York City parks.
Valerie Sun (@MlleValsunshine) is a dual-immersion and edtech consultant at EmpowerED Consulting. A progressive, techy educator since 2005 in private and public schools across elementary and post-secondary education, she published Navigating Dual Immersion: A Teacher's Companion for the School Year and Beyond where she guides teachers throughout their first years of dual immersion teaching. She is a certified TV5MONDE trainer, a certified DELF-DALF examiner/corrector, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, a Google Certified Educator - Levels 1 & 2 and Trainer, and an Apple Teacher. Her goal is to support immersion teachers in their craft as language and culture ambassadors.
Valérie Thériez is a French Dual Language Teacher Trainer, Coordinator, and Curriculum Developer with Expertise France, and is currently based in Bâton-Rouge, Louisiana. For the past 36 years, she has taught students ages 2-13, kindergarten through 4th grade, in France and Louisiana. She has experience in immersion, French as a second language, and English as a second language. She is also a certified DELF examiner & corrector. She received the titles of *2011 LACUE Primary Teacher of the Year *2013 LFLTA Teacher of the Year *2013 Cecilia Primary Teacher of the year * 2013 Louisiana State Teacher of the Year. She was the first foreign language teacher to represent Louisiana at SCOLT, in 2014. She is the current president of LCIS and Region 3 Board Member & Social Media manager of LFLTA. She’s all about making learning fun !
Victoria Creux-Laroche is the Educational Affairs Program Officer of French Dual Language and Immersion at the French Embassy in the United States, in Washington DC. She manages the French Dual Language Fund which supports public and charter schools nationwide through grants and professional development opportunities.
