The Family and Medical Leave Act (Federal) entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.
For Maternity, Bonding or Caregiver leaves, most members use the NJ Family Leave Act.
FREA members are entitled to 12 weeks of leave in a 12-month period for family leave OR a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her job.
This is helpful if you have exhausted all of your sick days. Your job is protected and you can maintain your health coverage. You are still responsible for your portion of the premium.

This leave is unpaid, but you maybe eligible for a disability claim through Prudential.
You may wish to "Buy Back" the time you were on leave for your pension. See the FREA Newsletter for current guidance.
