Family Leave is provided by Federal and State Acts. They are similar but there are key differences.
BOTH allow eligible employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.
Most people take NJFLA for Maternity, Bonding or Caregiver leave when possible. This allows the possibility for taking Federal FMLA in the event of a personal illness if needed. NJFLA may not be taken for personal illness.
Do you carry the health benefits for your family?
Understand that FMLA and NJFLA protect your ACCESS to health benefits. You are still responsbile to pay your usual contribution to FRHSD. This includes a prorated payment for any partial months you are on leave.
