Francine Urban - Leadership, Advocacy, and Innovation

In the Leadership, Advocacy, and Innovation Domain, students are assessed on their ability to address social concerns through practice in educational settings and design sustainable educational solutions. This domain addresses issues of social justice and navigating supports and barriers in educational environments. This domain is also assessed based on students' abilities to identify and utilize resources and supports.

EDU 498: Pro-Seminar

With this class, I started my internship at my place of employment, Starbucks Coffee Company. Through this, I showed equity towards my peers, making sure to create something unique for them and their needs. I also developed a sustainable education solution throughout the semester, which we still are using in my store today! I did this by creating and designing an idea for my coworkers to learn better and have the information they need in the palm of their hands. I met with our group monthly, sometimes more frequently, to gain better insight into my design. I also showed how I navigated through support and barriers by creating a survey for partners, so I had a better idea of what people are struggling with at my place of employment. I designed with an educational solution multiple cards, with an abundance of information in an organized manner. I have these cards in an easily accessible area and highlighted a way where you can find the answer to a question in seconds.

In my future career as an educator, let's say for example a teacher, I will use what I have learned about leadership in my classroom. This domain helped me address social concerns within my place of employment and I used my current skillset in order to create something that will help solve the problem and refrain from any future issues.
