Francine Urban - Act of Learning

The act of learning domain involves the use of educational theory in the examination and design of educational activities and environments. The main skills assessed are students' ability to make practical application of educational theories and apply knowledge from a specific discipline to the design of an educational environment.

In this class, we learned more about educational theories and the diversity/cultural issues that exist in our world. With the act of learning domain, we were able to make practical applications of educational theories described in our readings/work. we utilized weekly discussions to talk about how we would face cultural/diversity issues in our allowed educational settings. I created a workshop based on a local disability and support organization called the Arc of Atlantic County. I hosted this workshop for my peers so they learn more about this educational setting and how it has helped those with disabilities in my area. Creating the workshop/PowerPoint was the most appropriate tool I utilized throughout this course. The readings, “What If?” really gave an insight into our personal biases and how we can use this to create an appropriate learning environment.

Learning more about the domain, act of learning, I know that I will be able to apply what I have learned in LSE 401 and apply it to my future career in an incredibly positive way. I want to learn more about my future students, learners, and peers and help them feel more comfortable when they are learning, whether that is educationally or environmentally related.
