SPF 301 Culture and Schooling
In this class, we read a book that was about a teacher who focused on diversity and inclusion in her classroom. She is a one-of-a-kind, caring, and insightful educator. We learned about her ways of teaching that will stick with me forever. She discussed the many biases within education and the different cultures that surround us. We discussed this each week and compared with each other our findings and beliefs. In the book, a variety of educational settings were discussed. It set the pathway for creating a culture of inclusion and equity in future classrooms. Some of our modules included, “Place and Space,” “The Achievement Gap,” and “Cultural Conflict.” While discussing with peers, we found new ways of creating a multicultural and accepting classroom for the future. Through this, I showed mastery of this domain by learning about and comparing the functions of education throughout different settings, cultures, and cultural biases in education.
Learning about social justice and education through this class, domain, and novel, I believe it will allow me to be a better future educator, where I can utilize the skills I have learned in order to create an inclusive environment.
