In January 2021, the session of First Presbyterian Church of Athens discerned God’s call to join our church with siblings in Presbyterian congregations and agencies across the nation in the Matthew 25 initiative.  To help guide the congregation as we live into the larger church’s Matthew 25 vision, the session created a standing commission to support alignment, accountability, and integration congregation-wide.  The commission’s mission statement is:

To recognize Christ’s urgent call to be a church of compassion and action, where God’s love, justice and mercy shine forth; to provide opportunities to better understand and actively engage in the world around us; to help address the needs of those who Jesus called the “least of these"; and, to demonstrate that as Christians we are saved to serve, sharing the radical love of Jesus.
