DP Language and Literature makes you think. It is conceptual and inquiry-based, which means that you need to ask questions of the texts that you read - whether that is a film, a song, a painting or a novel. The programme will hone your ability to think critically and with an open-mind. I think that it is safe to say that upon completion of the course, you will be equipped to enter the world as an open-minded and empathetic critical thinker, and a global citizen.
It has 4 main goals:
Thinking about 'meaning': how it is affected by readers, writers, and contexts.
Strengthen the skills to interpret, analyse, and evaluate a variety of texts.
Cultivate the ability to express thoughts effectively.
Foster a love of language and literature.
ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills in the IB refer to a set of essential skills that encompass critical thinking, research, communication, self-management, and collaboration. These skills are crucial as they empower you to become an independent learner, effectively navigate challenges, and excel academically while fostering positive lifelong learning habits.
The learner portfolio is a crucial - and required - part of your journey in the IB DP Language and Literature course. Have a look at this document to help you write reflections on your learning.
