Timeline Start; 1839, 180 years ago from present…
1839, mutations began to appear in a remote mining town, causing slight panic. Nobody knew what was happening or why.
1859, miners dug deep enough in the earth to find an odd glowing ore, aptly named majium, that had never been seen before.
1861, those who had been found wearing jewelry made of the gorgeous gem began to mutate at a faster rate.
1865, a company began to buy people’s jewelry, taking it off their hands eagerly. They were only known to the public as the Company, a vast enterprise for it’s time owned by a few rich businessmen.
1869, the government began to do tests with the gem, trying to figure out why it caused mutations. Tests began to be sponsored by the Company, and the Company and government began to work together to figure out the mystery behind the odd crystals found 30 years ago…
1871, there were enough mutations within the human populace that those with powers began to be labelled as mutants -- and treated as less than, as the common person believed it was contagious.
1896, through newfound equipment a breakthrough was made on the crystals, as they were found to be radiating high amounts of some sort of raw unharnessed energy. This, later on, would be called Magic.
1908, technology was developed to harness that energy into electricity, as an alternate and more potent source of power for the masses. This conversion of raw energy to electricity was a breakthrough for humanity, sponsored by the great Company.
1912, worldwide discovery and subsequent use of the magic crystals began to take place. Some places even began to weaponize it, looking into its potential for national defense.
1914, World War I, the only war to occur in history, began; eastern crystal based colonies fought the great Company for control of our precious resources.
1915, our great Company developed and implanted a secure safety measure in all mutant civilians arms, meant to monitor and regulate their magic to keep them and everyone else safe and healthy!
1918, With our advanced technology, the enemy was defeated and we regained control of our resources.
1933, the first documentation of a strong shifter mutant was recorded in Loch Ness, Scotland.
1939, the Company discovered the strongest way to utilize Magic; Mana Bombs. This powerful technology crushed the competition completely, preventing the start of another war. The Company, through this technology, brought peace and prosperity to Earth.
1972, with more mutations occurring, those with powers began to be sought after as our town’s -- the origination of everything we know today -- very own peacekeeping force known simply as the Peacekeepers.
1979, there was a slight… kerfuffle, between our hardworking citizens and the less than desirable denizens that seem to hang around in the slums. It was quickly brought to peace, and the troublemakers were quickly put back where they lived, their numbers thinned from the conflict.
1980, Peacekeepers became the primary policing force in Thalos. Police officers began to be trained to become Peacekeepers, by 1981.
1983, the last police station closed internationally, as Peacekeeper HQs were created to replace them.
1984, some mutants, even Peacekeeper mutants, have begun to go missing. The Company, with our best interests in mind, began to tighten security, and our much needed curfew was put in place.
1986, the Company discovered the existence of under the radar mutants, mutants that required magic in concentrated form to exist -- Synthetic Mutants they were called. Peacekeeper recruits are now required to be tested if it was assumed that they had no abilities. Children post or during puberty were also being tested with new tests at this time, curious as to whether there would be more warriors for the cause in the future.
1987, Synthetics were more recognized and considered a subsection of mutants officially -- children testing positive for being Synthetic were now being tattooed -- no chip, as they were not True Mutants and needing their magic regulated for the city's safety.
1992, with our Company being worldwide, we’ve seen many from all places come to where it all began. Numerous developments and new businesses and life have been brought to our once mining town, turned metropolis.
1997, powers have become fashionable, and the Company released a drink for all to try! It’s called Nectar, and if you meet a few requirements you are able to buy it from your local store! Average bottle is about 550 mL and should last you a few days! (Please note: it is not guaranteed to give you wings.)
1999, with powers being a fashion statement and everyone trying them out temporarily, those who already have powers, so long as they are not… weak, like the ones in the slums, have integrated very well into the Society, and we’re lucky to have them!
2000 - 2018, everything has remained extremely peaceful, thanks to the Peacekeepers in and about the city! And hey, if you see a few, don’t be afraid to say hello!
2019 - Present, civil unrest has become prevalent… but will calm soon, with the curfew more firmly in place.

Somewhere in Western Canada, along the Sunshine Coast, lies you, infinitesimally small in the grand city of Thalos and its Outskirts. Thalos is big -- Earth itself, is big. And it has culture in and around each and every nook and cranny. As such, when it comes to culture, Thalos is of no exception. There’s culture along every highway, every alley. If curious, look no further. Here’s a bit of a lowdown on the world, at present:
A lot of things that exist in the present as we know it, also exist in here as well. So you can have your iPhone XI or XX or whatever number it is on, and fancy airpods. Just don’t wear them while in the field, they can hear you though you can’t hear them.
As a result of everything still relatively being intact, Holidays are the same. So everyone can have National Iced Tea day, or something less important, like Christmas -- it all exists.
The school system is also generally the same -- however, if your character has a higher class background, it’s incredibly likely that they went to the somewhat more militaristic school present in Uptown, where the rich live. This school is called G.G. Godfrey Academy. If you have a strong ability though, and you’re from a family of average joes, you can get a scholarship there. Peacekeepers want their best. More about the schools in Thalos can be found below.
There is a class system. Some of it is based off wealth, however a lot of status is based off of appearance and whether you have abilities. True mutants born this day and age tend to be far more mutated than those born years and years ago, due to bioaccumulation of magic in the human populace. So more mutated people go to the slums, less mutated people are generally given free reign within the city. Though, free is relative.
In Thalos, there are people from all walks of life. We’ve got people from the UK, people from China, Uganda … Taiwan, Germany, etc, so on so forth, they all can be here. Thalos is massive and the world… while these countries still exist, they’re all under one doctrine. For some reason, they all seem to be the same, give or take some varying laws.
NUMBERS
Every mutant gets an 8 digit number, and a chip installed on the inside of their right arm. On top of it, it’s tattooed, as shown:
You can tell if someone has a chip not only by their tattoo but also by the fact it's just under the second layer of skin. It forms a lump. It’s gross. Revivals aren’t big fans, as they actually have a tracker inside them, and for some more powerful and sensitive mutants they have the capability to sap magic from them to keep them in line. This can result in occasional fatigue, from registered mutants. Peacekeepers only have the tracker version. Peacekeepers get the tracker regardless of whether they are a mutant or not. This is so the main man upstairs can keep an eye on his or her little hellions.
Calling a mutant by their number in general society is often frowned upon by mutants. Most upperclassmen and higher class mutants tend to do this to degrade other mutants. So things like calling someone from the Slums by making fun of their number is quite rude. Though, higher in classes you go, less society cares.
TRANSPORT
In a metropolis as large as Thalos, transport just by car isn’t typically a viable option. Traffic on the streets, especially in the Trading District and in the Commoner’s District, means that it can take much longer by car to make it through the city. To help keep movement in the city smoother and to thin some of the traffic, Thalos has a large underground subway system that can take you to almost any part of the city. There are at least several stations in each district and make for an optimal mode of transport. There is also bus transit for travel in the city, and greyhound buses that can take people in and out. Just north of the city, outside of the walls is a massive airport for people to fly in and out of Thalos.
Otherwise, People tend to use electric vehicles for transportation within the city. The ones that use gas tend to be trucks or commercial vehicles meant to go to nearby farms and such. Some people however have bikes that run on gas, like motorcycles.
WEAPONS
The Peacekeepers are now the only military organization operating in Thalos, and as such they have weapons developed especially for them. The increased usage of magic powers in the battlefield has rendered weapons nearly useless for some. Still, there are many mutants that prefer to use them; as well as the normie officers who rely on them.
After the Great War in 1914 - and the subsequent victory of the Company - the development of firearms had almost halted as most troops preferred to engage in close combat with their powers. This remained true after the development of Mana Bombs, the Company's most powerful weapon yet.
The focus on close combat meant that short ranged weapons were still viable during battle, and as such the development of said weapons continued throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century.
Nowadays, the Peacekeeper's arsenal is composed of many different weapons, both long and short range. You can find firearms such as pistols and rifles; as well as more traditional weapons like swords and axes.
Modern firearms look pretty much exactly as you'd expect them, they still work pretty much the same. There are things like automatic rifles, optical sights, aiming lasers, etc. Anything you might expect to find in a regular gun in the 21st century.
Modern swords have had a few improvements over the years, and many are built with more recent materials such as steel and carbon fiber. The design on the grip has also changed, many models implementing rubber or leather in the handle. There are many different models with different applications, ranging from simple short swords to giant zweihandler-like blades.
There are those who keep to the old ways as well, using swords from centuries past. These can be family heirlooms passed down from generations or simply odd finds from antique stores.
SALUTES
The Peacekeepers are a very polite and structured group of people. They take body language very seriously. Making eye-contact with a superior is seen as incredibly disrespectful, unless given direct permission to do so. There are a few types of salutes that the Peacekeepers have, though there are two that are the most common.
1) Very respectful, used towards those of higher status or rank. Left arm tucked neatly behind the back, and right arm in a salute. Proper form includes the index finger against the forehead and the palm visible from a front view. Back is bent slightly in a partial bow, but shoulders remain tight, not slouched.
2) Mostly used by those with a higher status or rank. Again left arm is tucked neatly behind the back, and right arm in a salute. Proper form includes the index finger against the forehead and the palm visible from a front view. Shoulders are back and head is held high.
Within Thalos is a large schooling system, created to accommodate the many, many people who live within the city. Typically, students will attend the schools that are within the district they live in. However, though it is possible to be transferred from one school to another, it is not extremely common. Sometimes, if a mutant child's powers are rather profound they could be given a scholarship for G.G. Godfrey Academy or another school for excelling in their academics. Below are short summaries of the schools that were built within Thalos.
Karington Elementary and Middle
The Slums house a single school in the western area of the district that goes from kindergarten to 8th grade. This school isn't as well funded as the others, however its rather welcoming to all of its students.
They have limited extracurricular's and classes, but at least have all of the minimum required classes for schooling.
Reverie Hall Highschool
While not recognized by the Company, Slum denizens and a few teachers willing to leave the safety of the upper class pulled enough supplies together to form a rough skeleton of a high school. Reverie Hall, much like Karingon, is only a single building with very few extra-curricular classes. But again, because it’s not recognized it’s not mandatory, though many parents still have their children enrolled (the rebellious ones drop out quickly).
Redwood Elementary
Named after a tree native to the area, this school is rather quaint and well funded by the middle class community surrounding it within the Commoner's District. A K-5th grade school, Redwood directly feeds into Eastside Preparatory, which focuses primarily on academia and has programs meant to reward the truly gifted of the common folk.
Cypress Hills Elementary
Also named after a native species of tree, Cypress is the other K-5th grade school located in the Commoner's District. Cypress is the older of the two schools, and therefore has slightly more outdated facilities. However, efforts are being made to renovate the school; adding new facilities, updating the technology, and touching up the old buildings.
Eastside Preparatory
Starting at Grade 6 and going to 8th, and Eastside Preparatory shares the same campus as Eastside High. It's new, well funded, and hosts a good amount of extra curricular activities and clubs. It introduces different parts of highschool over 3 years so students are as prepared as possible to enter highschool once they're of age.
Sentinel Middle
Sentinel Middle is a standalone public middle school spanning grades 6 to 8. As the old middle school, like Cypress Hills, Sentinel is undergoing renovations to keep the school up to code. Though, most efforts are currently being poured into the elementary. Not much has been done to the Middle school currently outside of a few repairs here and there.
Eastside Highschool
Newly constructed along with Eastside Preparatory, Eastside Highschool shares a campus with the middle school of the same name. Students from the middle school will automatically be transferred to the highschool upon promotion. Students are primed and readied for the possibility of higher education in their near future. Like the other Commoner's District schools, it is a public school and is mostly funded by the community with small grants from the Company.
Larchbough High
The second high school in the Commoner's district, Sentinel Middle typically feeds into their high school, though students can be transferred from Eastside if they so please. Larchbough is one of the oldest high schools in Thalos. The school has undergone many changes since it was first constructed, and it has recently completed its renovation projects.
Eastside College
Eastside college can be considered something akin to a public college meant to get those who attend immediately into a trade or career within 2 years give or take. It focuses on training for jobs that are needing to be filled within the city (I.e. Pharmacist, etc) and isn't as elaborate as the other schools. Once going into this college you're thought ready to go immediately into the career you trained for after graduation.
Silvercrest Fundamental Elementary
This is the Elementary school of Elementary schools for the wealthiest children. A K-8th high profile exemplary institution meant to give your child's most influential years the structured learning it needs. It's expensive, but wouldn't you do anything to set your child up for life in this big glorious city?
Cadele Elementary (Elementary K-8)
Cadele Elementary school is the home for the future artists of Thalos. With numerous well funded programmes for you to enroll your little tater tot into, the possibilities are endless. As this is a school that is primarily for Civilians and their children, the programs are mostly centered around the arts like music, fine arts, and theatre. It is the artists that create Thalosian culture... so we wish to help create Thalosian artists.
University High School of Thalos (High School 9-12)
One of three Highschools connected to a University built within Canada, the University High School of Thalos is another prestigious choice for students aspiring to be the greatest they can be. With its exemplary Advanced Placement College programs meant for high-schoolers and shared campus with Edsworth University, UHSofT doors open wide the opportunity for those who don't feel they belong in GGG or wish for more opportunity for undergraduate credits.
G.G. Godfrey Academy
G.G. Godfrey Academy is the most well known Highschool in the country. High class and beautiful, this boarding school is known for its rigorous Peacekeeper training and well learned faculty. GGG Academy is a mandatory boarding school. Its enclosed in its own walls, protecting the students while they prepare to grow up in the outside world. Communication is still allowed, however limited. Here dangerous mutants are met with open arms and taught how to control their overbearing abilities. GGG Academy is often awarded for their kindness, in extending their hands towards the lower class and offering numerous scholarships to the lower class every year.

Edsworth University
Edsworth University is a university for those seeking out training towards a more specific degree, undergraduate all the way to a masters -- or who don’t wish to get involved with the cities politics. While it can be costly, it is well worth it if seeking out a career in medicine, engineering, business, arts, or anything of the sort. While it might not have as good funding as G.G, Godfrey United, it is definitely a close second. This school has optional student housing, with many student residences in the area.
G.G. Godfrey United
Godfrey United is a very prestigious, high ranking post-secondary institution. Free tuition is given to all those who attend, permitted that they are coming from G.G. Godfrey Academy, or have completed certain requirements for entry -- usually in the form of testing. In exchange for free tuition and housing, students are required to participate in multiple extracurricular, and learn to be on their best behaviour.
