Hey there!
Please take a gander at the rules below and take note that upon joining the group you’re agreeing to uphold and respect these conditions as stated here in this journal, as well as in the Discord.
This group is 16+. Because of the content of the group, anyone younger than 16 will not be allowed to join. If you are found out to be lying about your age, you will be asked to leave.
Please be respectful of the admins and other members. This group is meant to have a casual, friendly environment. Harassment and disrespect towards others won’t be tolerated.
This group is to be a positive and safe environment for everyone. The group is LGBT+ friendly, and any discrimination toward members based on their race, identity, religion, or otherwise will not be tolerated. While characters may be somewhat discriminatory in nature, please do not overdo it too much! [Remember; people are not their characters!]
If you have any issues, contact an admin privately. The group’s chat is meant to be a stress-free environment. The admins are here to help and are happy to help, please -- just talk to us!
Limit personal drama. Certain topics or issues that are brought up may be uncomfortable to other people. Please keep drama to yourself and outside of the group.
Mature content (including art and roleplay) should be properly spoilered and labeled. Violence and gore, to an extent, is allowed, but should be censored. NSFW involving sexual themes is NOT allowed in any of the main chats. All 18+ content can freely go in the #NSFW chat, which is ONLY available to those over 18. Failure to do so may receive a strike. Please be mindful of people’s ages when interacting, and do not make inappropriate jokes. Anyone who is found to be harassing other members will be immediately removed and banned from the group.
No godmodding/powerplaying. Do not RP other people’s characters -- after all, they’re not yours! Your own character also has weaknesses like every other person; they’re not invincible! Everyone has their limits. If you feel this is happening, don’t hesitate to notify an admin.
Keep roleplaying PG-16. Any mature topics should not be discussed in the chat and should be redirected to private DMs. Blood and violence are fine, but explicit sexual themes should NOT be included in roleplays.
No force-shipping / ship-chasing. Some people are particular with their characters' romantic relationships. Some people are not comfortable with having their characters shipped at all. Please be respectful of their decisions.
In-character actions have in-character consequences. When you’re developing your character, keep in mind that the things your character does affects not only other characters, but can negatively affect your own. This goes for the opposite as well! Can be positive too.
But there are consequences for actions so -- beware. :3c
There is no required word count or format for posts, but we want to remind people that we are a literary based RP group! So effort is very encouraged, we’re all learning.
All character applications MUST be on Google Docs. This is so that it is easily accessible to all members and mods. You are free to edit the formatting as you see fit, but all required information MUST be present and in a similar order and must be easily legible.
Stats, Currency, EXP/Levels, Skills and Items will all be tracked by mods. It is important to keep levels and stats up to date on characters' docs for your own reference as well as their skills & weapons, but otherwise will be handled by the mod team! Information regarding yourself and your characters will be found in the Masterlist.
This group does not run in real time. Time is progressed only when we have events so that people can take their time with their roleplays and with character development.
Story progression will involve events that use a mix of narrative roleplay and a combat, dice rolling system. Your character will NOT die if they reach 0 HP, and will simply go unconscious. However, the outcome of combat affects the course of events for the group. All events are volunteer based, but give a great deal of rewards for your participation.
Please leave answering questions in the #help-desk to the mods. This is so that we can be sure people are given the correct information to go forward with.
Activity checks are a thing, and will be held every so often. Missing one may result in a strike or removal from the group. A message via Discord will be sent to you. If you don't get back to us within 72 hours you will be removed from the group.
Hiatuses are just fine. You're always free to let us know if you'll be needing to take a hiatus! Just send in a general ticket on Discord. You have 2 months to get back to us, and let us know if your hiatus will continue. If you think your hiatus will be longer than 2 months, please let us know this beforehand!
Strikes. There are two types of strike you may receive -- activity or misconduct. Any strikes will be tracked on a private list. Please read below to fully understand our strike system.
Strike One
This is mainly a warning.
Those with only a single strike can potentially be taken off of our list if they do not receive a second after a 2 month period.
Strike Two
After receiving a second strike, you will be banned from group events temporarily.
This ban could last anywhere from 1 week to 1 month depending on the events that occurred. If the second is a subsequent activity strike, you will be removed from the group, but welcome to join back if you have more time!
Strike Three
You're out.
Once receiving 3 strikes, you will be removed from the group.
Depending on the events that led to your removal, you may attempt to rejoin the group after a time period of 6 months.
An admin will contact you privately if you have received any strikes!
Please Note: This strike system is ours [falcifers / Inkbl0tt], so please ask first before using it!
>> Q: What is this group about?
A: This group is about a city in a dystopia present with mutated magic powers and... it's pretty wild. For more information we suggest to look at the History and Culture journal!
>> Q: How do we tell what ranks are open and how many slots are available?
A: Open slots can be found on the Reservations page! There are numbers in brackets next to each open position to show how many are available. Please note that Allegiances does NOT show how many slots are open, and is only a list of characters already in the group.
>> Q: Is this group Discord based?
A: Absolutely. All events and the like will be held within discord, and all of our announcements are there as well. Please note; as a result of this group being Discord based, you WILL require an account to participate. If you're just wanting to get a feel for the group or share your character ideas with members, you're more than welcome to enter it! We have a Guest role for this exact purpose, so don't be shy, pop on in!
>> Q: Do I need a DeviantArt account / Do I need to join the DA group?
A: No, a DeviantArt account is not required, nor is joining the DA group. The DeviantArt group is always free to join for members and acts as an art gallery for F-S, but it is not mandatory.
>> Q: What format of RP is used?
A: Our group typically runs in paragraph format in 3rd person. However, this is not a solid rule, and unless stated otherwise, you may write as much or as little as you'd like!
>> Q: What year is it right now?
A: It is December 2020! Events are what progress the time, so typically the current date will be stated with every new event.
>> Q: What's the weather like in Thalos?
A: The weather is based off the Sunshine Coast, about halfway up the British Columbian coastline. This means hotter than the hubs of hades summers, frigid and frosty winters and generally wet conditions during winter and spring. Because Thalos is coastal and next to a large bay, it tends to actually be warmer than interior portions of the province. So... Rain, rain, and more pain. Er... rain. But in the dead of winter, good luck trudging through the snow.
>> Q: How big is Thalos?
A: Thalos is quite large, comparable to New York City in terms of size. Being a sprawling metropolis, one's commute can be made or broken by traffic accidents or weather events alike.
>> Q: What kind of powers can I have?
A: We welcome all different kinds of abilities in Finding Sanctuary, however there are some powers that do not work with our setting. We encourage people to look at power wikis for inspiration, and to ask around on our discord. More about power creation and how they work can be found in Character Creation and Magic.
>>Q: Can I have two powers?
A: No, for balancing reasons you cannot have with a character with two powers.
>> Q: How do I get my number?
A: A mod will give you your number once your reservation is approved. As it's based off your character's birthdate, please make sure you fill in that field! Once you've been passed off by a mod, your character will get their number and you can add it to the application.
>> Q: What’s sensitivity? How does it work?
A: Sensitivity is a mechanic we'll be using in the group. Majium is a reactive and powerful resource utilized by today's society and as such, your character will be interacting with it both directly and indirectly often. More on sensitivity can be found on our page all about Magic!
>> Q: Can my character have dual wield weapons?
A: Yes, but with some conditions! Characters start with dual wield weapons as long as they're small melee weapons(i.e., daggers, swords). You can dual wield handguns (i.e. Pistols) as well -- but as these are more powerful, you have to buy the extra gun from the shop.
>> Q: When do people first begin showing signs of having an ability? How does the Company know a person has a power?
A: Generally, from the time they're born to when they're roughly 4-5 years of age, those who are within Thalos' walls are tested by the Company for traces of magic by doctors. It's a fine science at this point. (More about magic can be found here!)
>> Q: When does my Synthetic Mutant character get chipped if they're a Peacekeeper?
A: It depends! Typically, a child is tested for their abilities a second time (usually the first fails, or shows no presence of magic within the child's body) before they fully are enrolled into their Middle School or higher to see if they have one after all -- and if it is strong enough, they can be sent to G.G. Godfrey Academy for potential Peacekeeper training.
>> Q: What's the difference between an NPC and a Player character?
A: NPCs, unlike player characters, do not take up a character slot, but cannot do as much as a player character. They are used for the development of player characters and for plot. More about NPCs can be found here.
>> Q: What is a Civilian?
A: A Civilian is a type of character you can make post Act I that is not allied with either side. They are moreso aligned with a side -- not actually PART of them. It's a different outside-looking-in perspective for those who are interested in that point of view. More on Civilians can be found here!
>> Q: Does my character get a codename?
A: Depending on what position you choose, you may or may not get a code name. All Revivals can have code names. Most Peacekeepers will not receive code names, unless you are a high rank, which includes the leaders of each section and their second in command. Code names are not mandatory, but for Revivals, it is good to have one.
More questions will be added as they arise! Feel free to ask them in the #help-desk channel on our Discord!
