For coastal fisheries to be sustainable, there need to be properly-sized and located marine reserves, where fish populations can recover.
These reserves need to be networked at the right ecological and governance scale, and managed access areas, where groups of fishers get exclusive rights to fish in exchange for more sustainable fishing behaviors, help ensure compliance, support and participation of communities.
Fish Forever’s approach depends on these MA+R networks to succeed, and several key elements help ensure the effective management of these networks.

What factors do we need to consider in determining which habitats to protect?
Why do we prioritize areas with high connectivity?
