I am a third-year student at Dominican University of California. I decided to major in education because I enjoy helping others and aspire to become a teacher.
I was born and raised in San Rafael and attended schools under the San Rafael City School District during my K-12 education. In high school, I volunteered at Saint Raphael's school as a Sunday school teacher (catechist). Working with the diverse student population at Saint Raphael's inspired me to pursue a degree in education, so that I can learn how to help children from all backgrounds succeed. My experiences as a bilingual student, fluent in English and Spanish, will allow me to relate to and support English language learners. I hope to make a difference within my community as a future educator.
WHY DOMINICAN?
At Dominican, I value that students are able to have a one-on-one relationship with professors. Dominican offers students a unique opportunity to connect with the local community through service learning and fieldwork placements. As an education major, I volunteer at local elementary schools, where I've gained insight into the differences amongst various Marin County schools, including access to resources and support.
