In Brazil, SBT (a television broadcaster) received a package of licensed anime from ZIV International in the early 1980s. [1] Brazilian musician Mário Lúcio de Freitas was assigned to compose new theme songs for four shows, which included: King Arthur, Angel, Fables of the Green Forest, and Little Lulu (known as Luluzinha in Brazilian Portuguese). All four theme songs were released under a compilation album as, "Turminha Zig Zag." The album was released on vinyl record and cassette in 1983, and sold around 8,000 copies. [1]

1986 VHS Release

In 1980, Brazilian Portuguese television aired the Little Lulu anime. Only one VHS release is known to exist, called, "The Adventures of Little Lulu (As Aventuras De Luluzinha)". [2] No full episodes have been found, but a few clips of this lost dub have appeared online.

On September 10, 2006, Mário Lúcio de Freitas uploaded a low-quality rip of the ‘Luluzinha’ theme song on his YouTube channel, in companion to the intro of the Little Lulu Show. The song itself was sped-up and shortened near the end. [3] Five years later, Freitas released the original Brazilian Portuguese opening of Little Lulu, along with Angel on December 25, 2011. [4] With this upload, Freitas used the masters of the songs instead of the original cassette audio. Frietas obtained the masters from RCA, the company that originally released the “Turminha Zig Zag” album. [5]

The 1980 Brazilian Portuguese Intro

Instead of a professional singer, children accompany the opening vocals, along with some dialogue from Lulu and Tubby. The opening primarily uses footage from the English intro and the first episode, "Little Angel".

On Mário Lúcio de Freitas’ website, a full version of the Brazilian Portuguese opening can be found in the “MP3 Collection” section. [6]

YouTuber user 'Chinorapper2010' uploaded a short clip of the ninth episode on November 13, 2011. [7]

In late 2022, 'Chinorapper' made an announcement detailing his renewed interest in saving the Luluzinha anime. Chino brought up the possibility of making arrangements to restore the episodes. [8] Two months later, Chino uploaded a follow-up video sharing his progress [9].

In 2023, 'Chinorapper' shared three full episodes of the Brazilian Portuguese dub in collaboration with YouTube user DirkieFilmesTV-Rip. This marks the first time where the Luluzinha anime can be fully viewed online since its original broadcast on SBT. [10]

The remastered episodes include episode 9 (The Great Indian Chief), episode 15 (The Lucky Coin), and episode 21 (Lulu - Child Prodigy of Music).

The original audio recordings were synced with video footage from the second Italian dub of the series. As of currently, it is unknown if further episode restoration is going to continue. [11]
