What is IRB?

Introduction

Under "What is IRB?" section, general information about IRBs, their purpose and history, are provided. The Felician University IRB complies to the Federal Regulations concerning the protection of human subjects expressed in the Final Rule.

IRB Functions and Operations

The purpose of an Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to assess research proposals in terms of the ethical use of human subjects. The legal foundation for the IRB-s was established by the National Research Act in 1974 (21CFR56).
