OUR SITE IS CURRENTLY A WORK IN PROGRESS, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE
The wastes of Colorado may be where we find ourselves but some locations are notable nearby it's pre-war boundaries and should be discussed for the sake of knowing the lay of the land.
Said to have somewhat common homesteads of imbred mutants and overconfident hillbillies. Wastelanders who travel through the area need to be careful not to tresspass on their familial lands and not to disrespect their ways.
Said to hold much military salvage, many who have traveled towards this far north have not returned. Even rumors of a Brotherhood chapter sent north towards Anchorage and beyond have beened deemed lost by the greater Brotherhood.
Left in shattered pieces after the Death of Caeser, Arizona is a battleground between countless warlords all claiming to be the successor to the man who once lead them. Be it the forces of Lanius, Vulpes's Shadow Legion, the zealots that make up Warriors of Mars, Iron Legion or countless other petty leader what is known is that the place is a mess and highly dangerous to travel through currently. These claims to legitamacy almost exactly mirroring the fall of the roman empire of old.
✦ The Legate's Legion ✦
Lead by Legate Lanius, the man clad in armor and who some claim lead to the fall of the legion due to turning back from the wall of Hoover Dam when they faced the Courier. Those who speak this find themselves quickly upon a cross and riddled with pain. Lanius is a brutal leader without the vision his predecessor but the ability to command through fear.
✦ The Shadow Legion✦
Lead by Vulpes Inculta, having survived the battle of Hoover Dam with many of his Frumentarii, he and his kin have stuck to the shadows they know so well. They work to aid the ideals of the legion across a great area and aren't actually going by the name 'The Shadow Legion', the title instead being one given to them by others. It is said that Legate Lanius has put a large bounty on the heads of all it's members, especially it's assumed leader in Vulpes.
✦ Warriors of Mars ✦
Zealots & fanatics who still claim to follow Caeser in his ascended form that is said to be one with Mars. This group is almost as brutal as Lanius but instead of using this for fear they instead use it as a bloody and perverse ritual of devotion and it's ranks are all heavily scarred beneath their plate of armor, seemingly some of these scars are worn in honor and others maybe even self caused.
✦ The Iron Legion ✦
Former members of Caesar's legion who use the name for it's authority and legitamacy but otherwise largely cast off it's identity. This group instead use technology to large effect, based out of an automated prison that was hard fought by the legion of old as well as a nearby former brotherhood bunker that lay empty after it's slaughter many years ago. This faction now uses the scavenged technology as well as what else they can find or shoddily repair to their benefit. Though it is notably that these are still mostly tribals, they are no Brothood or Enclave in their mastery of technology.
Great swathes of burnt and broken wilderness, once untamed and now even more so. The Ozarks stand as a monument of tribes scattered across the lands and many call this region of the wasteland Ar-Kansas.
Divided currently between North & South California with the NCR licking it's wounds on the more northern parts and mostly scattered if together at all in souther california.
Normally not much of note save for scattered settlements, though it is a common place of travelers between other regions in the Norther half of the east coast. Though in recent years some pre-war military compounds and sites of interest have been taken over by the group known as The Gunners as they wage a war against the Minutemen to the North.
Before the war Deleware was known as a corporate haven from taxes known for it's seafood, history and... that's about it. After the war towering corporate buildings soar above great flooded swathes of land where Mirelurks and similar reign supreme and mankind must live above.
Said to have been heavily effected by tsunamis caused by the great war and hurricanes after. But as is Florida it still remains and it's as crazy as ever.
Said to be a somewhat safe area with a religious faction known by the names of "The Nephilites" or simply "The Faithful" controlling much of the region.
Next to nothing is known on the mainland about the old world state of Hawaii, and if locals survive there they probably prefer it that way.
It is said a small detatchment of Brotherhood Scouts, no more than a larger recon team, was last seen in this region. But that was back in 2270. Little other news of note comes from the Gem State.
Rumors linger around the topic of Illinois, some whispers telling of a remnant of the Enclave being found somewhere nere Chicago. Myths inflate the tales of the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel who crash landed on the outskirts of Chicago as well but the various larger settlements of the city and surroundings can at least give some less hyperbolic facts. They did infact crash here, the remains of the more archaic airship can still be found, they did fight tribes known as the Beastlords & Reavers - killing those who would not join them. As well they did fight the forces of the calculator throughout the region, though it was not as far off as Colorado.
Aside from this however there is a decent sized faction of wastelanders known as "The Coalition" that is a collection of united settlements based out of Springfield and it's surrounding area.
Pre-war industrial complexes sit rusting and crumbling to time in this region with bandits having kept anything large from growing out of them.
Corn.
Farming settlements dot this part of the Dustbowl with their own small militias and politics but no large faction has risen from the region due to some of the other factors of the Dustbowl - not limited to rad-tornadoes. Many saying the reason for these in the dustbowl being the heavy bombardment of the pre-war state due to it's many missile silos. Some small splinter groups stemming from the Midwest Brotherhood's campaign against the Calculator can be found here as well, trading on occasion with outsiders and bolster their small numbers with one or two reprogrammed C-27s.
Some larger settlements can be found in old world Kentucky due to a few factors. Like Kansas they're dotted with still usable farmland but some survivors of the war founded 'The Kentucky Brewing Company' back in 2130 from the pre-war breweries in Louisville. They would then go on to leverage this to sell their product across the region, amassing a private military of sorts and growing the settlements around the city's ruins into what are now called 'The Louisville Boroughs'. Farmers in the countryside are given protection from them in trade for crops and there's even a large music culture in the post-war city due to the Kentucky Brewing Company sponsering muscisicians to drive customers to come to affiliated bars. As well as all this many scavvers come to the state looking to get their hands of salvage from the pre-war Independant Arms Group.
Similar to Florida, Louisiana was ravaged by the tides and marshlands with the great war just excellerating the process. Small communities exist in the Bayou of hillbillies, normal wastelanders & tribals. As for cities New Orleans, now just called N'alens, is a mixture of gangs, chems and colorful settlements & Baton Rogue is a battleground of groups fighting over the remains of an attempt to bring the post-war national guard and military in the state to one location just to fall to the wasteland.
It's said the mainland of the state is home to unusually large hordes of ghouls and that there is a slightly off shore area known as 'The Island' housing a couple small settlements and a strange radioactive fog. Some survivors say the state is cursed, siting these attributes as proof, all due to making a fish based soda beverage.
Home to the famous Capital Wasteland as well as the Point Lookout island, the story of the capital wasteland is a storied one but in the current day the largest power is that of the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel.
Housing the all too well known area known simply as "The Commonwealth", as well as other regions like Nuka World North. This area is currently mostly controlled by the Minutemen as they forge a new nation for themselves and their citizens.
A scattered and cold wasteland, some small settlements exist across the state but the most notable of such is the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. This group is smaller than at their height but in based out of an hidden bunker with a heavy presence in the Detroit ruins and are connected to the midwest brotherhood found in Illinois. Few in the area can put up any fight besides maybe slowing them down.
Some tech centers exist across the ruins of the pre-war state but aside from some small settlements and travelling scavvers little other news comes from Minnesota.
Many craters dot the landscape, especially around the supply yards who were sent Fatman Launchers before the dawn of the great war. Aside from occasional settlements and towns the place is known for it's traveling blues singers who tell sorrowful stories of the lost land of Mississippi.
Missouri was one of the lesser targeted states during the great war. St. Louis stands largely untouched even and a few decent sized settlements stand out across the smaller ones. Ragtime music plays on the radios and many beers sit in the hands of wastelanders. There is a shortage of individuals with higher education though which is keeping anything larger from growing here.
One of the least targeted states, save for military bases and similar. Montana is much like it's always been, with people having quite a bit of distance between each other. Some mining towns exist in the mountains to the west however and it's said a chapter of the brotherhood is somewhere within those mountains as well, some myths even telling of them having a functioning train. What is known however is two other groups within the region, one actually processing a train. Known as the Montana Express, they're a trading and courier company attempting to rebuild old train lines. Whereas the other is a more robust slave trading faction based out of Helena known as The Western Slaver Federation, often nicknamed 'The Feds' by wastelanders.
Just as in the pre-war the states of Nebraska is just as uncared about as they ever were. Due to this the dustbowl wasn't hit much by nuclear attacks, only the capitals and some military bases for the most part - though the area is populated by small settlements, homesteads and the likes there is currently no conflicts in the region save for the occasional plains gangs, bandits on the road or farmstead squabbles. Some small splinter groups stemming from the Midwest Brotherhood's campaign against the Calculator can be found here, though they don't interact with outsiders all that much.
The area isn't some safe haven though, it's still the wasteland and irradiated tornados & dust storms keep much from growing in the region beyond what's there.
Many tales have already been told about Nevada, be it that of New Reno,Vault-City or the famous Independant New Vegas - many tales still unfold here in the deserts of the Mojave.
It's said a particularly zealous, violent and organized group of the Children of Atom exist in New Hampshire, indoctrinating locals to server as soldiers in their holy war against non-beleivers like the Minutemen to the south. In the pre-war many nuclear powerplants were found here and it's last governor allowed for a lot in the way of illegal and unsafe nuclear waste dumping in the region to profit of this.
The Pre-war New Jersey & post-war ones match in theme very much, just with a bit more nuclear holocaust in the modern day. Atlantic city sits as a hive of organized crime and debauchery, large swathes of area are covered in a thick folliage protected by Overgrown and unique monsters can be found lurking in the dark here.
A scattered land with no particularly large singular groups. In the southern parts Cartel gangs find themselves coming from the lands of old Mexico to raid, deal chems or similar. To the north most settlements are small are far between. The New Mexican desert and hostile wildlife making the Mojave look like a cold climate.
✦ Albuquerque ✦
Once a captured monument to the warparth of Lanius before his later incursion into Colorado. This place was once a large legion city which after the fall of the legion the place devolved into squabbling warlord vying for power. Most notable of which are a Centurion trying to uphold the ways of Lanius and a heavy southern Cartel presense known for their introduction of Blue Jet.
✦ Sante Fe ✦
The city is a mixture of a few small traditional settlements, nomadic tribals and a raider gang based out of the old Spanish mission bearing holy iconography they don't understand or respect.
✦ White Sands ✦
A desert of white sands with large swathes turned to glass by the great war. The major group of this area is a raider tribe known as the Hollow Men who equipped themselves with scattered military equipment turned tribal decorations and always with sunglasses, goggles and pilot helmets to protect their vision. They stalk between the lifted waves and spikes of glass to raid those who come through the area and hide from the strange, unexplainable events that can occur here.
✦ The Reservation ✦
One of the most notable settlements of old New Mexico, this place - formerly known as the Los Alamos Nuclear Testing Facility, was a home of nuclear Research & Developement before the war. Due to it's long history and storage of nuclear materials the place was not really settled by your average wastelander and instead became a safe haven for ghouls over the years. Due to rising anti-ghoul sentiments over the years the Reservation's opinions on 'smoothskins' became more and more hostile themselves and currently the ideals of the area are of ghoul supremecy.
Be they they the towering ruined skyscrapers of the big apple potted with crates and wear or the settlements of more north regions like Albany and Buffalo - New York got hit hard during the war but as is their spirit, they live on. The bouroughs of New York City are home to gangs, settlements, raiders, monsters and more in a constant field of danger and battle but that's not too much different than the post-war. The residents seem heartier to it than most and kind of just live with it, even having a pride for it in a way. Northern settlements occasionally skirmish in the Niagara region with a faction known as the Canadian Liberation Front, often nicknamed "The Red Leaves" who seem to hold onto the grudge of their pre-war annexation.
Old historical buildings sit scattered across a somewhat tame area of wasteland. Small settlements live their lives and churches sit as sanctuaries to any who would need them.
Cold and open with little in the way of civilization aside from rare settlements or tribes.
Ohio is about as it was before the war, some farmers, a buncha travel time and strange anomolies on occasion. Settlements and tribes can be found here and a large amount of raider & bandit gangs as well.
Flat and open, this part of the dustbowl is home to trade routes between Colorado, Nebraska, Texas and more but is kept from growing big groups like much of the dustbowl due to rad-tornadoes, plains riders and more. They do have a lot of ranches and farms as well, with wastelanders alongside the tribes of the plains.
Wet and cold much like in the pre-war, Oregon has scattered communities held within their own regions. Be they the townships in Union County, the Havenites who descend from Larpers near Portland or the Redwood Tribes. Many still call Oregon home and it's not a frozen hellhole like some wasteland myths and rumors say.
Hit by many strikes of nuclear hellfire, Pennsylvania burned due to the war and the choices of the pre-war companies found there. In the mountains lays the long collapsed ruins of Raven Rock - The city once known as the slave hub of the Pitt is now free of such masters but serves to make steel for the Brotherhood in the Capital Wasteland. The Trog epidemic has been ceased but the burning fumes of the toxic river still make it hard to live but lucrative at the same time.
A very small state with little sign for a traveler to notice they were in a different pre-war state than before.
Historical buildings are abundant, much like it's northern sibling. But notable here is the excess of MREs found in the ruins to keep scavengers, settlers and tribes alike fed with ease.
Here sits the ruins of the Calculator's army. The crater that was once Mt. Rushmore sits as the site where Vault 0 fell and hundreds if not thousands of the Calculator's robots sit rusting away across the pre-war state. Many of which are picked clean but due to the sheer scale of the forces many scavvers still comb over the area and it's not uncommon to find good bits of technology in the forms of these robots or even long dead Midwest Brotherhoo troops.
The pre-war state of Tennessee has not nations or large factions but it has towns, homesteads, farming barons and more. Music is alive in this spaced out city states of sorts and so is a strong culinary culture. Local militias act as militaries loyal to a specific town and trade routes are secured by travelling Marshals. Churches, much like in North Carlonia sit as sanctuaries to all that none dare raid and even in some areas The Faithful of Georgia have influence.
The Lone Star state is currently in tryin times. The state still bears a quite large populace even with the large amount of nuclear detonations to hit it's lands, but rampant raider gangs, bandits and cartel forces from the south keep the area in a state of turmoil.
✦ The Texas Militia ✦
Clad in dusters, aviators & bearing marshal stars they are a certain type of person's wet dream. Lawmen attempting to keep order the Texas Militiamen are locked in a constant battle with gangs of the region - their main focus though being the Southern Cartels. Based out of the old Alamo these network of citizen lawmen are stretched thin as they try to take on the work of the desert rangers of old but without much of the elite training and personal grudges between groups often getting in the way.
✦ The Cartels ✦
Coming from the South from what was once the pre-war lands of Mexico, the cartels are organized gangs who focus on the trade of chems & weapons as well as protection rackets more than raiding. Some say the Cartels actually bring peace but other (along with the Texas Militia) claim them as invaders from the south coming to push poison and sin upon the Lone Star Wasteland.
✦ Houston ✦
In the pre-war this was one of the largest centers of space related technologies the world had seen. Though this didn't last up into the days just before the war. Many of it's facilities were left closed when the US government stopped trying for the stars publicly. Though the wasteland state it sits in now is a strange one. The place was modeled as a city of the future in large scale and many robots roam the streets, both military and civilian while glitching advertisements of new space age products & promises play on repeat alongside the rhythm of music to inspire the feeling of the American dream.
✦ The Lonestar Confederation ✦
Based out of part of Houston and the surrounding country side - some settlers, Texas Militiamen and former Texas BoS Expedition descendants have forged themselves a state their own. Started in the 2230's they are still a fledgling nation but are attempting to create order in their small section of the pre-war united states. As of the 2280's they have began to attempt to push their borders west towards places like El Paso and similar.
✦ Automated Border Control ✦
Pre-war robots still patrol the forgotten border between the old United States and lost Mexico, often seen by the remnants of the great steel wall of old. These patrols being a constant danger to those attempting to pass close to them, especially if you're of Hispanic descent.
Once the seat of the lasting Mormon religion much of this was burned away by the White legs as New Canaan fell to the torch of it's might due to their opinion of one of it's former members. Some scattered Mormons still remain in the region however and they, along with other wastelanders have founded the settlement of Jericho where New Canaan once stood, trying to get by. The area is less 'moraled' than before due to this fall though and Jericho even makes use of a human labor from criminals to run a desalination plant to keep clean water flowing.
✦ Surviving New Canaanites ✦
Currently there is no standing mormon settlements in Utah, only scattered farmsteads & hamlets of the survivors of their fall - with some of the survivors and tribals once conquered by the legion finding their way into the ranks of the growing Grand Khanate to the northeast in Wyoming.
✦ Zion ✦
After the tribal war that took place in Zion, the tribes of the region would be forever changed. With the execution of the White Legs chief by the hands of the burned man their remaining forces retreated east where they were beset upon by the opputunistic 80's tribe and the wrath of Caesar for their failure. This killing and war would change the local tribes, the Sorrows and Dead Horses fighting beside Joshua Graham, the former loosing their "innocent" identity at the dismay of their New Canaanite Shepard and in some seasons the two tribes would even squabble and fight between them from time to time. Some small groups of New Canaanites would join these tribes in Zion but they are few and far between and some caravans like the Happy Trails Company would return to prosperity by dealing with them.
The Children of Atom who wage their Holy Wars based out of New Hampshire but Vermont is one of their largest areas to send Missionaries to recruit. Be it by convincing settlements of the glorious vision of Atom and Division or by forced conscription in his name.
Same as much of the wasteland Virginia sits as a scattered land of sparse settlements and wasteland between. The largest settlement is based out of the pre-war city of Richmond and much like other areas of the bible belt churches and chapels often sit as mutually defended sites of sanctuary for all - though Virginia does have a harsher oppinion on ghouls than the other states and their sanctuary rules do not extend to them.
To the east sits dry plains that are nearly deserts with small farms and settlements on occassion and some medium or larger ones found in areas like the Tri-Cities or Spokane. To the west of the Cascades is where the true population of Old Washington truly rests however - much like the pre-war. Be they large settlements in Seattle, Tacoma or similar or the massive amount of diverse tribes that take to the wilds, post-war Washington is a diverse land indeed.
Pocked by nuclear craters, much of which landed some few decades after the war. West Virginia sits dotted with occasional settlements and secrets tucked away in the mountains and valleys of Appalachia.
In Wisconsin scattered settlements can be found of wastelanders, most notable is one found in the old Green Bay stadium that now acts as an gladiatorial arena as well as a large settlement. The only large faction in the area are the New Scandanvians, a tribe modeling themselves after the Vikings of old who reject most use of technology and embrace the 'new old way' that has given them the nickname of 'Neo-Vikings' or marauders by some wastelanders.
There is a slowly growing power new to the region who call themselves 'The Grand Khanate' a still quite small - but again growing - nation state. Aided by some former members of the Followers of the Apocalypse, they grow their strength bolstered by ancient knowledge of governance, economics & transportation. In time if they persist they'll truly carve out a mighty empire in the region.
✦ The Grand Khanate ✦
After their retreat from the Mojave the group formerly known as the Great Khans has grown as ambition for something more than just peddling chems and fighting bigger nations like the NCR. Instead they're in the early years of growing their own nation, one where Khanate Warriors and their guerrila tactics aren't little more than glorified raiders but instead are warriors of the state. The faction still makes use of Chems and the ways of the Great Khans but now better equipped with weapons and even a few motorcylces to serve under their leader known not by name but his title of The Grand Khan.
✦ Green River ✦
A region once dominated by the Tak'Veesh this land is now without their governance and has returned to just another stop in the wasteland. Bandit gangs are small, raiders similar but they now rule the roads and rob traders on the roads. The US Army National Guard base near Rock Springs sits empty of supplies or salvage but now has been repurposed to a tomb to Tak'Vessh warriors and leaders of old where the remaining members of the tribe sometimes make pilgramage to this place to pay their respects or bury new dead with the still around locals they once ruled keeping the place safe and cared for out of respect.
✦ Lone Wolf Gas Station ✦
A prominant gas station that started in Wyoming and can be found in nearby states as well. The Lone Wolf gas station was one with a focus on good food, clean facilities and being "Adventure's Staging Grounds". The larger stores had a focus on fossil fuel cars with a small amount of coolant pumps.
While much of the fates of other lands & countries is nearly a complete unknown to much of the post-war American wasteland some bits of information seem available in news to some of the more worldly and knowledgeable.
✦ The Official Annexing of Canada ✦
In 2059 America began the annexation of it's northern neighbor Canada. Due to greed, a need to secure their oil pipeline and many other reasons the great north was taken into American control - with many Pre-war americans taking to calling the place as "Little America" or "The Big 51". This action along with rising tensions from angered "former" canadians brought riots, rebellion and a fight back towards American troops in the region. In particular there is a notorious pre-war television broadcast of two American soldiers in power armor executing a Canadian protestor and then waving to the camera with glee - only adding to the fire in Canadian hearts...
✦ The Canadian Liberation Army ✦
Some years into American occupation of newly annexed Canada, many protestors began to have CLA wriiten on their pickets and signs. A movement was spreading across the Land of Maple that was a lighting fire for an uprising against their oppressors. US Troops were given orders to arrest or even kill people carrying this symbolism on their person or discussing it, only lending to the fires even more.
✦ Canada Garrisons ✦
Amidst the continue war effort against China and the rising tensions of Canadian "insurrectionists" - as the American Government often called them - a need for a Canadian focused garrison began to rise. Canadians loyal to their new American rulers were recruited and trained in American military tactics, even being give their own series of power armor meant for the environments of the area (Though notably, and likely purposefully this armor was no match for any American versions later than the T-45.). This armor, emblazoned with the number '51' and their wearers became hated by Canadians across their former country as traitors. Though little was it known, many of these "American Loyalist Canadians" were in fact not so loyal as their masters thought.
✦ Post-War Canada ✦
The Great War ended most things, stopping them in their tracts. Amongst these stopped things was the structure of the US Government & Military and as such their ability to hold control over "The Big 51". Canadian survivors quickly rebelled and killed or ran off remaining US troops and across "Little America" canadians took control once more.
In the current times, Canada - like most of the world - is still a wasteland of scattered peoples, groups & factions but A semi function network of communication exists across the old country where groups still keep lines open amongst themselves to create a loose and only semi-functional line of communication across the great white north. These groups of course still squabble and have their own politics but the fighting fury of their rebellion still sits in many of their hearts. Be they the Red Leaves in 'Ronto or other groups scatted about "The Big 51" many still hold onto the name of the CLA or Canadian Liberation Army.
✦ The Pseudo Annexing of Canada ✦
As far back as the year 2051 the northern neighbor of the United States began to put pressure on the nation of Mexico due to the rising tensions that would lead to the Resource Wars. Citing political instability and pollution the American Government began to impose various economic sanctions to destailize the state of Mexico, many siting as a way to pave a path for later Military Intervention. Later that same year the United States would send troops to take control over important parts of Mexican infrastructure and dispose local leads. The scope of which isn't exactly known but many point towards this international incident as the reason the European Commonwealth did the same to the middle east, kicking off the Resource Wars.
✦ The Aftermath ✦
While it does not seem that Mexico was ever "Officially" Annexed they did destroy their governmental structure in such a way that the power vaccuum left behind began to be filled by various cartels and other criminal enterprises. The US seemed to do nothing to stop this however, likely to continue the instability of the nation as a means of making it so they couldn't fight back. While other groups and areas seemed to last though this somewhat okay, the areas of US or US company control like Veracruz, Puebla & Hidalgo were tight in the grip of foreign military presence and the Poseidon Energy subsidiary, Petro-Chico.
✦ The Great War ✦
The Nuclear Armageddon brought hellfire down on the whole world and Mexico was not spared. Many accounts say that the capital of Mexico City was completely wiped off the map. Some groups banded together but lawlessness soon took the country and the only real authorities left were the cartels as many US troops tries to flee back north to their families and the one who remained soon found their heads on pikes...
