OUR SITE IS CURRENTLY A WORK IN PROGRESS, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE
NOTE: Border area is "Into the Wasteland" Release area
Trade hub of the region, New Aspen is a fairly large settlement with four city blocks to it's name. Chiefly among these is the Munciple Block, a pre-war sheriff's office and courthouse that acted as much of the governmental buildings of the pre-war town. The descendants of those who worked here being those who founded the town. With this rule of Sheriffs and a ruling Judge the settlement became one of law and order in the years since the war.
This allowed the place to prepare as they heard of Caesar's legion's approach via the conquest of Denver to the North-East and the settlement doubled down on it's defensive nature of policed law. Fighting never came to the area before the legion's collapse but the settlemnt kept onto it's orderly ways with the Municipal Block leading the community with a somewhat heavy handed way of things.
One should note that while ghouls and mutants are technically allowed in the settlement many of it's denizens do not like them and they are not allowed to own land within the settlement's walls. Despite this bigotry however any criminal of the settlement or surrounding region will not be killed without fair trial however, held in the stronghold's courthouse.
The Municipal Block - The house of government within the region. Read more below...
The Bank of New Aspen - An actively running bank, here one can find the ability to find membership. With it one can have currency exchanged, gain loans or have goods stored for safe keeping.
The Archive - A new addition to the settlement, the old Pitkin County Library was reopened under the stewardship of the Followers of the Apocalypse within about three or four years time. Here the faction has it's foothold in the region as they attempt to spread knowledge and help many tribes in the aftermath of the legion's fall.
St. Mary's Church - A still active house of faith, it's pastor allowing all forms of peaceful worship within it's halls and providing the role of the undertaker to the town as well.
Galena Plaza - Once a small grassy park, this place now sits as a small farm within the safety of the walls.
Main Street Market - The large sprawling bazaar of a market sits across the main street of the settlement, many locals and caravaneers pushing their wares. Will you find deals here or trade your own goods?
The Underlot - The home of those who the settlement finds shame in. Read more below...
. . .
The North-Eastern block of the settlement. This is the seat of the town's government as well as the homes of it's most influential and wealthy. Built from the old governmental building - once housing the sheriff's office and courtrooms - this place continues that history.
Headquarters of the Aspen Sheriff's Office, enforcers of the Judge of Aspen, one needs clearance to enter the Municipal Block...
A large underground parking garage found beneath New Aspen, here finds the lives of the unwanted of the settlement, be they Ghoul, Mutant or otherwise. This place has no direct protection or law of the Sheriffs and conditions are less than ideal. Still many live here for the relative safety or out of fear of traveling the wasteland.
As New Aspen is a continuation of the pre-war city of New Aspen's governmental body, it has a long and storied history in the wasteland.
Pre 2077 - The City of Aspen is in a boom with the wealthy escaping the woes of the world via skiing and similar along with corporations moving in. Aspen starts being nicknamed 'Little Denver'.
2077 - The Great War ignites, missiles rain down over the city but are intercepted by the Colorado Missile Battery System. This still leaves wreckage in it's wake but not widespread destruction. Riots break out and several small nearby military installationsare lost.
2078 - Judge Annabelle K. Norridan and Sheriff Michael Buglione organize the remaining Pitkin County sheriffs to finally bring an end to the rioting, consolidating power around the town hall. As such New Aspen is established
2079 - Many nearby small towns have moved their remaining populace to New Aspen to find safety due to some roving criminal elements such as escaped convicts, wild men in the hills and people fully embracing the chaos of the new world.
2080 - Refugees from Denver come to New Aspen seeking a place away from the chaos of the city. Some have to be turned away but many are let in, finding housing in the underground parking garage beneath town hall. Notably amongst them though is a preacher who takes over St. Mary's Cathedral.
2081 - New Aspen begins to become a center of trade along Highway 82 and the Aspen Sheriffs as they are now known patrol the roads and keep the law.
2090 - Aspen Sheriffs shoot a man at their gates who is suffering from heavy radiation sickness due to fear of potential contamination
2101 - Representatives from the Military Remnant come to New Aspen to check on the population, finding them decently well off and independant they let New Aspen know they'll come to their aid if needed but leave them to self governence.
2124 - Aspen Sheriffs have a run in with the Williams Mountain Raiders, there are losses on both sides but the Sheriffs are forces to retreat.
2139 - Bigotry towards the ghoul inhabitants of New Aspen begins to seed itself into the community.
2163 - Supermutants fleeing east arrive in the area. Many are turned away and continue east but some linger. New Aspen only allows them to live in the shanty town built into the underground parking garage beneath New Aspen - a place nicknamed by locals as "Underlot."
2170 - New Aspen is able to secure a trade alliance with the community called Chabad, known for their independence.
2196 - Calculator Robots roam near Aspen, only held off by the Aspen Sheriffs, some small amount of Military Remnants and chiefly the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. Many die holding them off.
2197 - New Aspen, never having to had to face the Calculator's forces directly is left much better off than other communities like the nearby Woody Creek or Junklot settlements.
2201 - New Aspen holds a celebration of 100 years of safety.
2205 - Aspen Sheriffs attempt a raid on David's Landing but are picked off on the way - none reach David's Landing and few return from the attempt.
2230 - Tensions begin to rise between the 'human' inhabitants of New Aspen and the ghouls who find dwelling here. This comes to a head when the acting judge of the time declares the 'Twighlight Laws' that ban ghouls from being in the surface side of New Aspen after sunset.
2263 - A massive earthquake is felt across old Colorado, Aspen isn't hit too hard by it but some buildings find their collapse from it. A good amount of citizens do die however and New Aspen reduces it's size as a result.
2273 - Forces of the Legion are spotted in the area, conqueoring people in their wake. The Aspen Sheriff nervously prepares to fend off the invaders but due to the sacrifice of the Sun Sogs the Legion never travels down Highway 82
2289 - Aspen Sheriffs are still recovering their strength after the quake of '63 and are unable to dislodge a new raider gang holed up in the USAF listening post to the east. A bounty is put out on the head of their leader Mao Mao.
2296 - Aspen Sheriffs announce that Mao Mao is dead but are distraught to find new Raider Gangs growing to fill the power vacuum left by her death.
✦ Alpine Township ✦
A fairly sized trading settlement formed at the Alpine Lumber Company mill east of Old Aspen. The growing township is currently the biggest in the East Aspen Valley area and has negoiated a guard force in the form of a Legion Militaris Conteburnium. They sport reinforced wooden walls and are known to be a safe haven for ghouls and supermutants to live alongside humanity.
✦ Eastridge ✦
A small settlement found nearby to Alpine Township out of what was formerly the mid construction Eastridge Estates in the pre-war. It was settled recently and consists of a small collection of wastelanders who have found it a pretty safe place to live. This place has fallen to mostly irrelevancy however and only a few settlers make home here, it's main claims to traffic being wastelanders making use of it's recylcer, buying from the Dunbar Ranch trader there or those venturing through towards Alpine. It has recently come under the control of Alpine.
✦ Camp Hemlock ✦
A community based on smuggler's ridge that is built out of an old collection of hunting cabins surrounding a central lodge. This place was once the home to a group of wastelanders before being abandoned and later taken over by the Tribals who onc called Serehk'Tak home. After this tribal group continued their migration further north and the neo-patriots moved the place fell into the control of alpine and is becoming a home for their E.S.F. forces to train and deploy from.
✦ Fort Rothchild ✦
Once an interesting settlement found at the old Aspen Valley Substation, this place had been settled by techno-tribals who have reinforced the place with stone and metal walls and constructed a temple out of the equipment and scrap metal walls. Though when the tribals migrated north they left it in the hands of a lone Paladin of the brotherhood of steel who has since use it to grow out a local chapter of the brotherhood. Renaming the substation to Fort Serehk and then later Fort Rothchild when tensions began to rise between the brotherhood and their former tribal allies.
✦ Simurgh Satelite Station ✦
Built out of the USAF Listening Station Bravo, this military structure turned settlement is a decent power in the region and is a center of people who wish to advance their field of expertise. This place of ambition is currently trying to grow the fields of science but wants to be a place for any to pursue their passions.
They seem heavily allied with the Brotherhood of Steel nearby and keep close ties with Vault 49 as their leader Isaac is from there and has created trade deals between the two.
✦ Richardson ✦
A settlement based out of rich housing to the north, they are a collection of wastelanders took up residence here with the goal of bringing back some of the luxuries of old america. Having moved from their old hunting lodge community to this more american wealth fitting one.
This Neo-Patriots seemed to be a collection of normal wasteland folk who simply want to have a place where your neighbors are nice to you, safety is guarenteed and you can go down to your local tax office and see people dressed in nice modest clothes instead of rags and have your taxes filed and really go somewhere.
✦ Tamu'Khar ✦
In the North of the area, in the old pre-war town of Lenado, a group of tribals has gathered to form a true city of tribes. Months have been spent building strong walls with filled earthworks bolstering them. Pre-war houses, tribal & wasteland decorations all meet here alongside an surprisingly eastern aesthetic. This group of mixed tribals has been a power in the region for some time and this is their home now, one they intend to build up.
✦ Bottlecap Point ✦
A small settlement found in the old ranger station on Red Mountain Ridge. With scrap walls built up the old american flag has been replaced with a homemade one of a nuka cola logo. Few living people seem to live here and instead it seems a scrappy post-war site of industry where robots make up much of the workforce.
✦ Herron Trading Post ✦
A small trading post in the central part of the Aspen Suburbs, this Poseidon gas station was converted into a caravan stop and multiple stores that are semi frequently stopped at by merchants and passerbys. An old industrial building just near the gas station is under the watch of hired mercenaries who also keep a watch over the whole of Herron.
✦ Aspen Grove ✦
A small gathering of ghouls made up of those of the Gravekeepers who didn't join the Spades, those ran out by the bigots of New Aspen and other ghouls just looking to make something for themselves. The place hasn't existed very long but the denizens of Aspen Grove are hopeful about building a better tomorrow.
✦ Evermore ✦
Built from the pre-war moseleums of the Paecker family tombs - what was once the base of the Gravekeepers has now become the small ghoul town of Evermoore where the renamed Ghoultenders live, readying ferals for combat as they are aligned with the Spades Gang.
A still sealed Vault in the Aspen area of Central Colorado. This Vault seems to be running quite well still but has some notable features that the dwellers live with that make it a little different from other vaults.
Vault 49 has no Overseer or Department heads - instead many just refer to senior members of a department for their knowledge and experience. Where the Overseer's office normally is instead is a P.A. broadcasting room used for news dispatching within the Vault. The dwellers largely have taken up a cooperative method of running their society with Automated Vault 49 'staff' robots running the more boring behind the scenes stuff via a subroutine called 'The Overseer System'.
Vault 49 notably has a currency used to pay employees and buy goods with. While many things like the vending machines are stocked free of charge by the 'staff' robots for dwellers and non-staff robots alike many other goods require one to spend these 'Merit Notes' on for the sake of buying. Jobs in Vault 49 come in three types:
1. Work Orders Jobs, where Overseer System sends work orders to the department for employees to grab and get to work on, getting paid Merits in the process of completion.
2. Exchange Jobs, where the employee makes Merits by exchanging a service for these deeds. Things like Culinary jobs and similar fall into this.
3. Commission Jobs, Jobs where a service is given but not charge for and the worker instead has Merit Notes delivered to their residence by staff robots as a payment over time.
Vault 49 has many advanced and luxury facilities - some of which not found in other vaults.
✦ Atrium ✦
The Vault Atrium of Vault 49 is equipped with UV infused lights that allow for a small park of vegatation like hedges, grass and trees to bloom and grow as well as provide the dwellers with the nutrients of sunlight.
✦ Recreation Hall ✦
The Vault 49 Recreation Hall is equipped with many luxury facilities that allow the dwellers to enjoy their time here in the Vault. Including a large sports field, shooting range, café, Arcade, Theater & Concession Stand.
✦ Admin Offices ✦
Vault 49 is set up with Administration Offices, here one can find the broadcasting room as well as some office spaces. This across from the Security area where one can find Security Offices, a small jail section and the Security Armory. Aside from this space there is a much smaller Security office on the Vault's top floor near the sealed Vault Door.
✦ Science Wing ✦
The Vault 49 Science wing is a rounded area equipped with such facilities as a large medical area, chemistry lab & computer lab for the dwellers to use the terminals in.
✦ Utility Levels ✦
Down at the bottom levels of the Vault can be found the Utility Levels that include the Reactor - mostly controlled by the Overseer System, Wetworks facilities where water is treated and checked, Engineering Bay - even equipped with a robotics bay, laundry and locker area, and even a Recycling room. As well at the back of this level is where the staff robot ran Warehouse is found with sanitizing fields that keep any organic matter from getting in to tamper with the safety of the vault's stores.
✦ Quartermastery ✦
In Vault 49 many terminal systems exist called 'Quartermasters' where one can order goods from the warehouse to be delivered to them via pneumatic tubes from even levels away in the vault. Some items requiring the swiping of certain security keycards to prove credential needs.
✦ Trailhead Trading Post ✦
An old trailhead giftshop and restraunt, the residents of Vault 49 have turned this place into a trading post to make trade and relations with outsiders. Though they do so more out of need than want.
A smaller settlement comprised of farmers and ranchers that can be found down highway 82 to the southeast of Aspen. This place is one of the larger farming groups in the region and one of the few who still raises horses for sale. Currently the settlement is being courted by the two Legion Fragments of the area and at the moment sits undecided on which to join.
A settlement formed around a Jewish Community Center, following the great war it's people insulate themselves with walls and while doing trade with the outside do not allow outsiders into their gates. There's a bit of mystery for some around this settlement but they are known for outputting crops and water in abundance - the latter of which they trade with New Aspen for Sheriff protection of their roads.
A smaller settlement comprising little more than an old country club restraunt. The place has been turned into a free port of sorts and is a frequent stop on the road to New Aspen for travellers. They are notable however for their dislike of the Aspen Sheriffs and their rules of 'you can pull a gun but that means everyone else can too.'
Past the direct surroundings of old Aspen one can find word of other settlements being found. Here is a small collection of them.
Northwest of Aspen, along the highway is another group of small settlements. Known as Woody Creek this area has less law and order than New Aspen but still finds some level of prosperity from passing caravaneers on their way to New Aspen or beyond. Some of it's groups have taken the protection of the Legion Militaris, while others remain independent.
Here one can find a collection of settlements built into the ruins of Old Leadville. A group of peaceful mutants and ghouls based out of an old college along with other scattered small settlements & homesteads, an outpost of Nova Roma and more finding their tales reaching the ears of the people of the Aspen Area, even with a rough road through the mountains between them.
Found in the pre-war town of Glenwood Springs, this settlement and surrounding homestead found near the Glenwood Springs base ran by the Oak Company P.M.C. This town is small and mostly survives by trade on its way to Aspen and by the protection of the aforementioned PMC.
✦ Relations with Oak Company ✦
Glenwood finds itself built around and relying on the protection of the Oak Company PMC to survive in the region. Many of the township & even nearby farmers offer crops and other such supplies to the PMC in trade for this protection.
✦ The Diamond Jacks ✦
Based out of a hotel sharing the same name, the Diamond Jacks are a non-raider gang based out of Glenwood. They work as movers, pushers and thugs but often find contracted work from the nearby Oak Company to do jobs they don't want to sully their hands with.
