Laser Guided Bombs

Laser Guided Bombs are released using CCRP mode and are promided terminal laser aim with the TGP and Laser Arm.

In order for the TGP to point easily to target during flight, it is recommended during mission planning to add a stearpoint at the exact location of the target. This way, when switching the TGP on with the stearpoint selected, the sensor will point automatically to the target.

ICP

• List -> 0 -> 5

• Check that the LST CODE in the DED is the same as the LGB Laser Code in the Loadout page

• Use the ICP Data Control Switch (image below on the left) to move the cursor over 'A-G: TRNG' in the DED (image below on the center). Press button '1' in ICP to change to combat mode. CMBT will flash for a couple of seconds and then will stay (image below on the right)

• Press A-G to switch to Air-Ground mode

Left Panel

• Switch on Master Arm
• Switch on Laser Arm

Right MFD

• Check that you are in SMS mode and have your desired laser guided bomb selected. If not change the weapon by pressing OSB 6. In this example, I have two GB24A bombs selected in single release (image below on the left)
• Check that CCRP mode is selected. If it is not, change to CCRP by clicking on OSB 2 -> CCRP (image below on the right)

Left MFD

• Check that the SOI is in the Left MFD
• When you are about 20 miles from the target, start TGP mode by pressing FCP -> TGP -> STBY -> A-G.
• The TGP will point to your current STPR and after a couple of seconds the letter 'L' will appear. Note also how the laser is in CMBT mode (what we changed previously) and the laser code is 1688 (Image below on the left)
• Move the cursor over the target. Press on WIDE to change the view to NARO and pinpoint more easily. Once you have the target pinpointed, lock it (TMS Up). You will get an 'IR AREA' or 'IR POINT'. Both are good for our laser guided bombs (image below on the center)

HUD and Left MFD

• Head toward the target and when you are about to reach the release point, the HUD will show a circle (image below on the left)
• From this point, the circle disappears and a short horizontal bar will move down to artificial horizon. In this example the bomb will ready to be released in 9 seconds (image below on the center and right)
• Keep the 'Weapon release' button pressed, and when the short horizontal bar reaches the artificial horizon, the bomb will be released.

• The bomb will take 45 seconds to hit the target as you can check in the Left MFD and the HUD (image below on the left and center)
• During those 45 seconds, I make small corrections in the cross-hair and lock it to pinpoint the target more accurately. After 45 seconds... Splash!! (image below on the right)
