Ensembles

Marching Band

Fairview's marching program is supported by a host of professional marching band instructors as well as parent volunteers. In 2018, the Fairview Marching Band placed third in the state marching band competition. Marching students are required to spend time outside of school preparing for marching competitions. The marching band season runs from August through late October, at which time the band comes inside and transitions into concert band season.

Concert Band

When marching season ends in mid to late October, the focus switches to concert band, which allows the students to perform in school concerts as well as statewide competitions. There are currently two levels of concert band offered, with chair placement audition occurring in December for the second semester. Each student also has the opportunity to participate in small chamber groups as a subset of the concert bands.

Jazz Program

The jazz program at Fairview offers students at all levels the opportunity to learn and grow with the jazz idiom. Rigorous instruction takes place in the classroom four times per week during a regularly scheduled class period. In addition, students can audition to play in smaller jazz combos that meet each week for a double period on block day.

Color Guard

is the visual unit of the Fairview Marching Band. They perform using their equipment (flag, rifle, saber, prop), and emotional connections (facial expressions and dance) to the audience to enhance the meaning and feeling of their show.

Winter Percussion

Winter Percussion ensembles consist of the marching percussion (also called battery) and front ensemble (also called pit) sections of a marching band or drum corps. Indoor percussion marries elements of music performance, marching, and theater.
