Service Context 

The centre teaches philosophy on education that is based on the child-centred learning style in which every child is considered capable and competent learners. This philosophy is consistent with Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) that is a practice guide on Australian early childhood settings. The Goodstart teachers strive to give the children positive experiences so that they become socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically developed. Such an inclusive practice is one that will inevitably take into account the special needs of any child as well as their strengths and their interests. Goodstart Early Learning Bayswater north Goodstart Early Learning center  has one of the main characteristics: the play-based curriculum. Arthur et al. (2020) also state that play is not only enjoyable but also at the center of children development so that they can learn by doing, gain knowledge of solving problems, and get to know the world in a safe and supportive environment. In my placement, I noticed that children were encouraged to engage in imaginative play, establish connections and learn new things during both guided tasks and free play.

The EYLF outcomes are also being reinforced by the centre through its play-based approach, including the Outcome 1: Identity, which focuses on sense of belonging and self-confidence among children. By means of such activities as role-playing and group discussions, children could share their ideas, got to know their emotions and started to realize their place in the whole world. The learning environment has been made inclusive with resources that reflected the various cultures of the kids that attend the school and this encouraged the Outcome 2: Community where children interact with others and develop a sense of belonging to the world around them. Teachers get in contact with parents frequently in order to have a common ground on the development and learning of a child. Such a relationship with families is essential to providing children with the needs that they have both inside and outside the learning environment, in addition to supporting their emotional and social well-being, which is consistent with Outcome 3: Well-being of the EYLF (Arthur et al., 2024).
