Winter 2022/23

God promises to wipe every tear from His people’s eyes one day. So we can trust him not only for blessings but also allowing challenges in our lives that shape us in His image and strengthen our faith. He is faithful to use all things for our benefit and His glory. In all these times, we appreciate your prayers and support for our family and ministry!

New shoulder

January 26, after 5 months of pain, Michelle had shoulder surgery. Although the MRI showed a rotator cuff issue, it turned out to be a frozen shoulder which has a much quicker recovery. She already has full range of motion but still needs to recover strength for nursing, gardening, and life in general.

New ministry budget need

Michelle and I are so thankful to be able to serve Bible translation because of your support through prayer and finances. Our 2022 donations were 5% low and our 2023 budget increased by 4% due to cost of living. We’re discovering this 9% shortfall is significant as we deal with medical expenses, car repairs, and sticker shock at the grocery store. Please pray whether you could help us meet this need and, more importantly, glorify God in the process. Your donations are tax deductible. Please see our support information or contact us if you have any questions. THANK YOU!

New JAARS Clinic hours

Until we can solve our staffing shortages, JAARS had to reduce the clinic office hours to two days a week. Please pray for the Lord to bring staff - doctors, PA’s, RN’s, administrative staff, and a director. If you know someone, or are interested in volunteering, please go to jaars.org/serve or let Michelle know! If interested, search job descriptions for "health services" at jaars.org/serve.

New JAARS president

JAARS’ new president, Steve Russell, has a huge heart for missions and amazing leadership experience. He served in the US Army for 21 years, including leading a high-profile 1,000-member task force. After years of combat, three wars, and 15 moves, Steve felt led by God to turn down a promotion to colonel and settle his family back in Oklahoma. There, he entered public life as a state senator and went on to serve two terms in the US Congress. Most recently, Steve has served as the executive pastor at a large church in Oklahoma. We praise God for bringing us a gifted teacher, pastor, administrator, author, and public speaker.
