Elbow Pain

Other than traumatic injuries, overuse mechanisms account for the majority of patients’ complaints. Muscular strain is common at the origin of the wrist flexors & extensors. The most common conditions are:

  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis): Patient presents with lateral elbow pain associated with repetitive sports or occupational activity, such as play tennis, badminton, or squash, using a paintbrush or roller while decorating, plumbing or bricklaying, etc.

  • Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis): Patient typically presents with pain over the medial aspect of the elbow. Patient may complain of occasional or constant numbness and/or tingling that radiates into the 4th and 5th fingers.

  • Little league elbow (pitcher's elbow): Patient is usually an adolescent baseball pitcher who complains of medial or lateral elbow pain.

These conditions are caused by excessive strain on the soft tissue surrounding the elbow joint, which leads to inflammation. While all conditions are commonly associated with the repetitive sports, anyone who exerts repetitive workload on their elbow joint (such as typing, using the mouse) is also susceptible. In sports, Warm-up before exercise, proper playing techniques and elbow support during the exercise, and post-exercise stretching are essential. Ergonomic set up of workspace is indispensable to preventing elbow injury. Please set up an appointment with our team at Evergreen Health & Wellness today for professional advices.
