Syngnathus schmidti Povop, 1928 or Schmidt’s pipefish (EN) or Syngnathe de Schmidt (FR) is an extremely understudied pipefish. The scientific literature available on this pipefish was from the XX century, where it described their distribution and some ecological features. Present on the Black Sea, it feeds on copepods and the males are the ones brooding the embryos in a specialized brooding structure located in the tail. It has a brown body colour and a long snout. IUCN Red List classified this pipefish as “Data Deficient” and advised researchers to target this fish for further projects.
