From 15 to 18th June, EUROSYNG teams gathered in Taranto, Italy, to present and discuss the project and prepare the tasks for the following year. Huge thanks to Dino Pierri, Michele Gristina and their teams for the wonderful reception, excelent meeting and opportunity to dive with the Mar Piccolo syngnathids.
Charlotta Kvarnemo, Professor at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of Gothenburg and a member of EUROSYNG, just confirmed the extraodinary discovery of a seahorse in Swedish waters. This rare finding was done by six-year-old Hubert Berggren. It seems that we are in good hands with this new generation of naturalists...
Mainly due to warming waters resulting from climate change, we anticipate that these observations (pipefishes and seahorses expanding distributions northwards) will be increasingly more common. You can see more on in this topic in "Predicting the impacts of climate change on the distribution of European syngnathids over the next century".
Biodiversa+ is part of the European Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 that aims to put Europe’s biodiversity on a path to recovery by 2030. The Partnership aims to connect science, policy and practice for transformative change. It currently gathers 74 research programmers and funders and environmental policy actors from 36 European and associated countries.
In the beautifull city of Prague, we were delighted to present EUROSYNG, to our colleagues from the other 35 projects funded under the BiodivProtect 2021-2022 call. It's game on!

One of the goals of EUROSYNG is to sensitize students (those that will act in the near future) towards conservation and climate change, with emphasis on syngnathids. On February, we presented our project, and talked about syngnathids, at the Rio Tinto Secondary School (Portugal) to a crowd of enthusiastic young students.
