About project

The objectives that we would like to achieve are linked with the priorities that we have selected:

We want to make our students more aware of the benefits of being a citizen of Europe and we want to show them that it is only with the help of the European Union that peace, freedom and economic stability can be achieved. To be a true European citizen means to appreciate living in a democracy and that means first learning what a democratic system is and how it is structured.

Students should learn that at a young age what the term “democracy” really means and how they can participate and be democrats themselves. In our days, participating is to a large extent done digitally via social media, which, as we all know, can be dangerous if one doesn’t know how to distinguish between fake news and real news. So the digital skills and competences of pupils must be enhanced, which is another important goal that we are trying to achieve in our project.

The target groups of our project are young pupils aged approximately 12 to 14. This age group is mostly overlooked when addressing young people because it is assumed they are too young and not interested in European matters or in politics at all. That is not true. At this age, teenagers are still very eager to learn, have a very strong sense of right or wrong and they want to engage and commit themselves, but have no idea how they could achieve that. We as their teachers often observe that in their families, they do not talk about what is happening in the world around them and that the concept of Europe or the European Union is very foreign to them.
