RE-DESIGNING TASK #1:
For this task, I will be re-designing part 1 (Introduction) of Task #1.
Instructions: Introduce yourself to the class by describing what is in your bag with only nouns. You can create an audio recording, or you can create a list.
Below is an example of an audio recording and a list created on Canva:
After reading the weekly readings , I recognized, as an educator, how crucial it is for the teacher and the students to use metalanguage in the classroom in order to create engagement and meaningful interactions (The New London Group, 1996). I decided to re-design this task by only letting students describe what is in their bag with the use of nouns. I also gave them the option to either record their voice, or to create a list and post it. For me, the benefits of mode changing are that it gives students the opportunity to creating meaning in a variety of ways. It is important to be able to express yourself using different methods, but it is as equally important to understand multimodal meanings when people present them to us. The challenging part of this task was the re-design process, because it took time to reflect and outline how I wanted this exercise to be executed, and if it provided students with a different experience with yet the same learning outcome as in Task #1. If I had to describe my re-design process with a quote it would be that " In a profound sense, all meaning making is multi-modal" (The New London Group, 1996, p.81).
