"The government keeps saying that taxes are good. They keep taxing their citizens more and more and more. Carbon tax keeps going up. Property taxes keep going up. Provincial and Federal taxes keep going up. Inflation keeps going up. People are not able to save money. People live pay cheque to pay cheque. But taxes are good for you. Where does all this tax money go? What does the government do with your tax money? Well, they don't do much to help you anymore. They would rather spend and help other countries than help their own citizens. But don't forget... We need taxes!"
For context purposes, the prompt I was given was this: "Describe or narrate a scenario about an advertisement found two generations into a future in which “progress” has continued. Your description should address issues related to the government and elicit feelings of anger."
This excercise was interesting because it forced me to be creative and think outside of the box. I had to think of different perspectives and opinions that exist and then create a narrative based on the prompt. What is great about this prompt is that people can agree to disagree, but most important is that the exercise is engaging and each narrative is unique.
