As with my other landscape paintings, I started with a greyscale sketch to establish the composition. By only using values, I hoped to build depth. From afar, it looks interesting, but upon closer examination, it's just a mess of transparent brushstrokes. 

For color, my main goal was to maintain depth. Rather than by color, I arranged my color palette by value, which is probably why every part is rainbow. I applied gradient layers with lowered opacity over the grayscale, then started painting over. However, depth is more apparent in the greyscale version of the colored painting.
