Abstract

The goal of this project was to learn the societal implications of developing electric vehicles by analyzing the existing information on the subject. The main analytical and visual systems used include Inspec, Compendex, VOSviewer, Inspec Analytics, PatentScope and Mergent. These methods allowed us to analyze IPCs and NAICs codes and other required data. Using the resources previously mentioned, our team was able to determine a considerable amount of information regarding electric vehicles in the form of publications, sponsors, companies related to the topic, etc. Using Inspec Analytics, information such as institution publications, authors, the involvement of each country and the main sponsors were found. In addition, using the same database, the main IPCs and keywords were found which were then used in the PatentScope. This research platform allows its users to find IPCs and their definitions, as well as the main applicants of such patents. Hence, the number of patents related to electric vehicles was then determined which then led to the NAICS codes. All these results were then used in the publication, the patent and the socio-economic analysis. In addition, the four poles (Science, finance, technology and market) were then discussed in order to determine the impacts and effects of the electric vehicle’s technologies on society based on the analysis done beforehand.
