Standard 1 - Teaching Diverse students- The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.

When faced with challenging students it is important to fully understand that student and their comfort level. Creating a calm classroom with expectations helps the students to understand the daily routines of the classroom.
Creating a system for individual students can be helpful and maintain a level of accountability, even at a young age. These two charts were created to mirror my behavior chart so that I could best help my students who wanted to do good but struggled with their impulsivity and attention.
The students were able to monitor their day to day behavior, as they improved we were able to move to weekly assessments. Allowing students to participate and reach individualized goals.
