Physical Literacy
'Motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to maintain physical activity throughout the life course' - Whitehead, 2010:5
The understanding that these skills underpin the ability to maintain exercise through childhood, adolescence and adulthood - highlights the values we need to promote as teachers. Encourage children to participate in physical activity because they can and because they want to, and believe in the positive impact it has
Teachers are responsible for exposing children to a wide range of sports and therefore the benefits that come with the positive opportunities
The impact we make now doesn't just create an impact for PE, but potentially impact for the rest of children's lives
Inclusion
Differentiation - adapt through the step approach
Space - changing environments
Task - adapting rules of a game
Equipment - using different resources
People - number of people involved
Teachers must adapt physical activities to support all members of a class - important to develop their confidence in PE as a participant
Meaningful opportunities that facilitate diversity and give a sense of belonging, and ability to participate for the rest of their lives
Next step - inclusive extra-curricular activity
Character Development
Sportsmanship
Respect and Honesty
Problem solving
Collaboration
Aspiring to win and learning to lose

These should be embedded within PE teaching; there are so many learning opportunities that can be related in a PE lesson - these skills are invaluable throughout life
Children can experiment with these ideas during PE, exposed to many different experiences and interactions. So opportunities to transfer this learning into everyday are positive
