I decided to pursue a degree in education because I want to be in a position to help and inspire children. Nowadays, children are experiencing more problems and worries at an ever-younger age, needing support necessary to flourish on their journey through younger life, through leadership and communication. Children are the future, and so for them to reach their full potential as caring, intelligent and responsible human beings, they need that help to point them in the right direction. Students succeed in terms of their academic achievements and also emotional, physical and mental achievements, by being supportive and caring. Teachers help children gain this all round experience by my approachability and patience, building meaningful relationships with the children they am trusted to teach. Organisation and strong work ethic would prove essential to maintaining a calm and welcoming environment for my pupils to learn and develop in.
St Marys RC Junior School (February 2020 - March 2020)
I worked with a Year 5 class of around 30 pupils, helping out their teacher and teaching assistant. I participated in lessons such as English, Maths, Science, RE, ICT, Art, Geography and PE. In the majority of these lessons I was given responsibility of my own group, consisting of around 5-6 students. During this time, I assisted the students in their work, giving advice and help whenever they needed it. As well as this, I was trusted to take my own groups out of the classroom for additional reading and maths time, where we would work in a separate area for those children who perhaps needed a bit more reassurance during their learning. This experience (that was unfortunately cut short due to Coronavirus closing the schools) really showed me what it's like to have a teaching role. I was put in a position where I was responsible for my own group of students, with their learning and safety as my top priorities. Within those few weeks, I was shown a lot of the rewarding work that comes with being a primary school teacher, but was also shown the difficulties that come with the role. However, the experience culminated in me knowing for certain that a primary school teacher is definitely the job for me.
Greater Manchester Police, Ashton-Under-Lyme(August 2017)
Spent time with senior officers in the Serious Crimes unit. I was able to travel around Manchester with Senior Investigating Officers, to places such as prisons and old crime scenes. I was able to get first-hand experience on how police investigate serious crimes, how crime presents itself in society and how these crimes are dealt with and prevented.

British Heart Foundation (June 2016 - December 2016)
As part of my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, I had to participate in volunteer work for 6 months. i decided to do this at the British Heart Foundation charity. During my time there I learnt what the charity does and how important it is to people's lives. I was shown the values of selflessness and generosity, which I took away with me and like to think I incorporate into my life everyday. As well as this, I developed my skills of independence and responsibility.
Rotary Interact Group ( September 2016 - June 2017)
As part of the Rotary Interact group, we worked alongside St Helens council, organising fundraisers and charity events, both out in the community and within school. From this we raised money for local charities, such as Alder Hey Children's Hospital and the Owen McVeigh foundation, working alongside the members of the Rotary Interact Group of St Helens. This was a very grounding experience, with visits to places such as Alder Hey hospital.
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (September 2015 - June 2017)
In order to gain my Bronze DofE Award I took part in numerous expeditions, demonstrating my teamwork and leadership skills, navigating and map-reading. I also volunteered at a local British Heart Foundation charity for 6 months, working alongside their members in charity shops, raising money for the cause. This award helped me develop skills such as perseverance, kindness and confidence.
