During my first day in Barcelona, my family took me to Tibidabo where I saw a beautiful view of the city. Barcelona is such a beautiful place to be!
Walking to school from home is very common. Not everyone has a car to travel around the city and it is a lot more difficult to obtain your driver's license. Public transportation is a common way to get places that are a bit farther of a walk (either by metro, train, or bus).
During my first day at school, we had an orientation to learn about the school rules, teachers, and environment. One thing that they emphasized is that we may experience several cultural differences while we are here, but one of the main ones was that everyone is louder here and it is not seen as disruptive or rude.
As a teacher in the school in Spain, I received several breaks throughout the school day. The school provides the teachers with a snack at one of their break times. I had my break time at 11-11:30 each day where I would go to the faculty lounge and get a croissant, fruit, coffee, and whatever they had for the day. During lunch, the teachers get 1 hour and a half for lunch each day. They typically do not work during this break and they spend that time socializing and eating their lunch. We got free lunch each day at school and I really enjoyed the food, but we are allowed to leave and go home or go to a local cafe/restaurant for lunch if we prefer.
The students were very interested to learn about Kentucky, my hometown and my interests. During my first day with the students, I shared with them some information about where I am from, pictures of my family, and some of my favorite things. The teacher used that as an exercise for the students to practice writing in English.
