The first principle that I ask of students is respect. I will show students respect always, but in return I also ask for respect. I teacher I observed did this and it seemed to work really well and it is something I have begun to implement in my own classroom. I remind students of this when needed and I also ask that they show their peers respect as well. With history and geography, sensitive topics can come up so I feel that it is important to establish principles with students so everyone is on the same page. Of course, I always act in accordance of the ethical principles of the profession as a teacher. Some ground rules that I set for myself, is to always have my door open, when speaking with a student alone, it is done in the hallway or in my classroom if other students or teachers are present, and I never use inappropriate language when students are present.Â
