UNIT OF WORK - Powerpoint.pptx
COMMENTARY Group Assignment.pdf

These two images that have been inserted are our power point for our group TTEB's presentation of Unit Plan and commentary.

Tereapii Upokokeu was our leader who created our power point of presentation. The power point included the name of our groups, the roles we have been assigned and the commentary of our Unit Plan.

The commentary of our Unit Plan explains the Background of the L1 and L2 students, Unit Work, Teaching and Learning Activities, Assessment and the Resources we use to deliver our lessons when teaching the students. We plan our lesson plans to cater the NCEA Level - 1, who speaks Maori as their first language and English their second language or speaks English as their first language and Maori as their second language.

Our Theme is Toku Kapuánga. Benedictor Matapo was assigned to create Lesson 1 - 3, Elizabeth Bishop Lesson 4 -6 and Tukumate Ngatuakana Lesson 7 -10.

Group Lesson Plan - Benedicta.pdf

Benedictor Matapo created and planned Lesson 1 -3 along with the activities for NCEA Level 1.

Benedictor's LESSONS FOR LEARNING OUTCOME 1: Demonstrate through face to face conversations comprehensions of simple phrases in common everyday context.

Her first lesson was - Toku kapuaanga i roto i toku ngutuare tangata. She has created her lesson to cater the Language 1 and 2. The resources she has chosen to help with her teaching are families, slides or videos and power point. According to her lesson 1, she has mentioned that she will make the lesson a bit easier for the Language 2 and won't have too much sentences. Also there will be assistance to learn how to write and pronounce the words.

Lesson 2: Toku pirianga ki te kopu ariki.

As above is the topic that Benedictor has planned for her lesson 2, which is about how you are related to a particular family of King or Queen in your village or where you are from. But somehow the topic can be taught in depth about it. Her learning outcome is for the students to be able to confirm how they are related to the King or Queen by researching their genealogy. To be able to help with the students learning, Benedictor has indicated she will ask a guest speaker who is from one of the Kopu Ariki's in the village or on the island to talk to the class and for students to go home and asked their family about their genealogy.

Lesson 3: Formative Assessment of Lesson 1 & 2

Kia rauka I te tamariki I te korero mai I to ratou papaanga

A formative assessment was created for Lesson 3 to assess the students by having them standing in front of the class to present their genealogy by doing a speech. In order for the students to present their speech they need to follow the steps of a speech. First of all, they must have a memory verse, song, chant or poem to suit the topic. Secondly: name of the topic and Introduction. Thirdly: The speech must have a body and then a conclusion by summarizing his or her speech. To conclude the speech you have to again present a memory verse, song, chant or poem.

Group Lesson Plan - Elizabeth.pdf

I Elizabeth Bishop created and planned Lesson 4 - 6 and was not meant to plan Lesson 7.

My learning outcome is to: Express ideas fluently and accurately during conversation.

Lesson 4: I roto toku oire (In my village)

This topic is based on the assistance that you can get in your village or that has happened in your village. For e.g. cleaning the village, help with funerals, birthdays, hair cutting and others. Students will be explained in Maori and English about the topic. I'll show a power point of any activities that has occurred in my village as an example. If there is enough time, I may ask the students if they can share their experience or what they did when they were involve in any of the activities above. Students will write 300 - 400 words regarding to their experience or what they have observed of any activities and will present it.

Lesson 5: Tona turanga i roto i te oire akaraanga e a’a tona taoanga (His or her position / calling in the village)

I thought of showing a short video how a member parliament, Island Councillor, Mayor or ariki is chosen in the village and what are their duties. Students are also encouraged to research about their ariki or a ariki in their village by searching on the internet, visit the Archive or asking one of a Ariki they know about their title and ask other questions. As part of the Resources or activities, if there is an investiture of a Ariki is coming up during that time, I'll take the class to observe the ceremony.

Lesson 6: Formative Assessment - Conversational Interaction in pairs or in a small group

I have created a formative assessment for the students to ask questions in pairs in Maori for 2 - 3 minutes. They will be asking questions like for e.g. Reo 1: Ko ai toou ingoa? Ko Rouru Ioane toku ingoa.

Reo 2: Ko ai toou ingoa? Ko Rouru

Reo 1: Ko ai te ingoa toou mama? Ko Keu Ioane te ingoa toku mama.

Reo 2: Ko ai te ingoa toou mama? Ko Keu.

The main thing is for them to know how to pronounce the words in Maori correctly and able to know what words to use in their sentences. ' Ko ai toou' and 'Ko' are the main words I would like to focus on, which comes from the A and O categories. This formative assessment will prepare them for their summative assessment. Reo 2 will answer the questions in a short sentence, but as time goes by they will gradually add more words like the Reo 1 with confidence.

Group Lesson Plan - Tukumate.pdf

Tukumate Ngatuakana created and planned Lesson 7 -10. Her Learning Outcome is to: Comprehend and respond appropriately in different situations.

She has specifically set out her unit plan with lessons for Language 1 and 2. Tukumate planned her Lesson 7 -10 by indicating the areas where her lessons links, strategies she will use, resources and steps in teaching. The topics for the lessons are as follow: Lesson 7 - I roto i te putuputuanga pure, Lesson 8 - I roto i te putuputuanga apii, Lesson 9 - I roto i te putuputuanga koni, ura, ingo and Lesson 10 - Vaitoanga Kite (Summative Assessment). The summative assessment has been set out for students to film pairs within your own group by creating a 2 minutes conversation about any of the topics that has been taught in Lesson 7-9. The students will be assess how confident they speak in Maori by expressing their thoughts and how well they present.
