This is an alternative assignment I created for absent students and one of my student's 504 plans. These students are not able to speak in front of groups, so this assignment allowed students to meet the same standards without participating in the seminar.
I understood that my student's anxiety and 504 plan meant that she couldn't participate in the seminar, which connects to standard 1D. I used this understanding of her 504 plan to create an alternative assessment that worked for her and her needs.Â
I learned the importance of reading through all of my students' 504 and IEP plans and planning instruction and assessments that work for them.
These are three different materials of varying levels of complexity that I used to model satire to students. This connects to standard 1J, as I used the least complex satire example to introduce the concept and moved through the more complex satires to help students understand the concept and get meaning from them. I also spent more time on the more complex satire and helped students define difficult terms in those satires to help my EAL students.
I learned how to choose materials and arrange them in a unit to build student's understanding of a concept. I also learned the importance of defining important vocabulary words and using a variety of strategies to help all of my students understand complex satire.
