This is a lesson I co-taught with my cooperating teacher to connect to the student's culture and concepts they studied before I came to the school.
The co-taught lesson connects to standard 3F, as I had to decide which parts of the lesson I was going to teach and what things my cooperating teacher needed to teach. Together, we were able to design a learning experience that connected with the student's culture, which helped them understand satire better.
I learned how to plan a co-taught lesson and how use the expertise of the people who work at the school to design the best learning experiences for students.
These are two screenshots of a Modest Proposal that show part of the context I taught students and some of the words that I underlined and defined for students.
This connects to standard 3C because I understood that my Japanese students would not have the context for a Modest Proposal. Also, English is not the first language of many of my students, so I circled or underlined terms that I needed to define for them during instruction.
I learned how to read a text and think about what words might be confusing for students and to understand their cultural and linguistic background when planning instruction.
