These are two summative assessments I let students choose from for their Independent Reading unit. The first assessment was a poster that students could draw on their iPad or on paper, and the second was a podcast that the students could record with their Ipads.
These assessments connect to standard 5N because I used the technology the students had available to help them complete the learning objects for the students. Students who felt more comfortable drawing using technology or uploading images instead of drawing could use their iPad. This assessment also gave students the opportunity to work by themselves instead of working with a partner on the podcast project.Â
I learned how to create multiple assessments that tested mastery over the same standards and to meet student needs. It also let me practice meeting multiple students' needs in my class. Some students in the class were too anxious to present and some students would prefer to work with their friends and some would prefer to work alone. These assessments allowed students to either pre-record what they had to say so they wouldn't have to present live, and allowed them to either work alone or with a partner.
I used screenshots from a textbook I read in Secondary English methods to show the types of instructional strategies I learned for teaching literature in this course.
The textbook connects to standard 5D because it shows I understand how to teach literature as an English teacher. The textbook also talks about how to start discussions with students and have them respond to literature in ways that matter to them, connecting to their own life.
I learned how to teach students to analyze literature through a variety of lenses and the pros and cons of each strategy. I also learned how to hold classroom discussions.
