On your first shift, go to your assigned pod and introduce yourself and your level of training to your attending and senior resident. Typically, they'll be gathered around a computer desk in the center of the Pod.
There are a lot of different level of learners in the department (3rd year medical students, SubIs, interns, off-service residents). Letting us know what level you are at will set our expectations and gear your experience to your level of training.
Review with the team who they would like you to present to and how they would like you pick up patients.
When you log into Cerner and see our tracking board, you can sign up for patient from there. You will first need to "check-in" as an available provider. Then, double-click on the "Res/Ex" column and a pop-up window will show up. Click on "ED Provider". This will let the team know that you have signed up for a patient.
You will need to look professional while you rotate with us. This means either dress attire or scrubs. As in all hospitals, open-toed shoes are not allowed. White coats are required while in the department so that patients can identify you as a student. You MUST have your ID on you at all times.

Our ED has bedside carts throughout the department. There are sets of carts in every patient room, which are locked. The code for these carts is 4-5-4-5. There are also carts with more specific equipment for various specialties. These are also locked. The code for these carts is 2-3-4-5.
B pod has the pelvic exam cart and suture carts. It can be super helpful for students to gather supplies for procedures to help the team!

Students have access to the housestaff lounge located on Tower 8. The lounge includes access to computers, printers, vending machines, free coffee, and a shower space.
The Alexander and Herbert Luria Learning Center is open to Jefferson Einstein Hospital physicians, staff, and students on clinical rotations at Einstein facilities.
It is located on the 4th floor of Hackenburg Building.
There is swipe card access for anyone with an Einstein ID from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday - Friday.

On your first day, please park in the Korman Parking Garage. It is the covered garage located to the right of the main hospital building as you enter the Einstein campus from Broad Street.
You will gain access to the parking garage at Orientation by going to the Security Office on your first day and getting a badge. In order to get a badge, the Security Officers will want to check a valid student ID and they will ask for a $5.00 cash deposit. This deposit will be returned to you at the end of the rotation once you turn in your badge.
Affiliate students (Jefferson, Drexel, PCOM) have their daily parking fees covered by their schools. All non-affiliate students will need to pay for parking. Parking is $4.00 per day. This will need to be prepaid at the Cashier Office (located in the main lobby near the gift shop).
