Excelling will look like: Technology use is ubiquitous throughout STEM classrooms and students are producers and not just consumers of digital content that support mastery of Georgia Standards of Excellence.
Students identify and use the technology they need to solve problems. Technology is used to engage students in global opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Students actively practice the practices of digital literacy, digital citizenship, and computational thinking practices within interdisciplinary units. Students demonstrate foundational programming concepts and utilize informational security fundamentals when creating their final product.
Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade Computer Lab Lesson
Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students used Code and Go Mice to construct mazes. Students programmed the mice to run the maze they constructed. Students used coding directional cards to create their algorithm and then programmed their mice to test it. When the mice had errors, students had to problem solve techniques to determine the issue and debug their code.
3rd Grade, 4th Grade and 5th Grade Computer Lab Lesson
Students were given a map of a slalom type course being set up in the hall. Students were challenged to block coding for SPHERO EDU to program a SPHERO Spark+ to navigate the slalom course. The goal was to end in the middle of the diamond located on the main hall. Students measured to determine which SPHERO was closest to the center. The SPHERO coding uses angles to determine which direction the ball will roll and the speed/second for distance. To test the program, a mini course was set up in the classroom to assist students in determining their angles and speed.
Computer Coding
Students participate in Coding courses through their Computers Special Area class. They have completed over 80 code puzzles and written even more code!
