INDUSTRY VISIT AT POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA LIMITED, JEERAT SUBSTATION

On August 6,2025, students of department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from IEM, Salt Lake, today visited the New Jeerat Substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for an industrial tour. The visit, aimed at bridging the industry-academia gap, provided 18 students with practical insights into the operations of a 765KV/400KV substation.
During the visit, students gained practical experience with:
Operating Mechanisms: They learned how circuit breakers function.
Anomaly Management: They observed the monitoring and control actions taken during system irregularities.
Equipment Maintenance: They were briefed on the maintenance processes for key electrical equipment such as reactors, high-voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and isolators.
The students also got to know current challenges in the power sector from industry professionals, including:
Reliability Issues: Ensuring a consistent power supply.
Malfunctioning Isolator Motors: The technical challenges posed by equipment failures.
Stability Issues: The complexities of integrating renewable energy sources into the grid.
This visit offered valuable exposure to real-world engineering challenges, highlighting potential areas for future research and development.
INDUSTRY VISIT AT HALDIA ENERGY LIMITED

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) KLN, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering (EE) and Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) Department of IEM Kolkata, organized a one-day industrial visit to Haldia Energy Limited on March 29, 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with valuable real-world exposure to the power sector, focusing on thermal power generation and its operational aspects.
INDUSTRY VISIT AT TATA POWER SKILL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE & MAITHON THERMAL POWER PLANT

On August 29, 2024, 21 students from the IET-IEM Student Chapter participated in an insightful industry visit to the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) and Maithon Thermal Power Plant. At TPSDI, students learned about the institute's training programs aimed at enhancing technical skills for the power sector, with an emphasis on sustainable and renewable energy.
INDUSTRY VISIT TO EASTERN REGIONAL LABORATORY

The 24 no. of students of IEM Kolkata have got an opportunity to be a part of the ‘INDUSTRIAL VISIT’ organized by BIS, Kolkata Branch Office-II. The members of Standard Club of IEM organized the one-day event at Bureau of Indian Standards, Eastern Regional Laboratory. The main motive was this event was to support the youth towards standardization awareness and to know about the process of how standardization works.

Industry Visit to EASTERN TRANSFORMER & EQUIPMENT PVT LTD

All the 30 Student Members of IET-IEM Student Branch has well participated and secured knowledge on Transformer construction techniques and procedure involved in transformer construction. Various methods of testing the Transformers are known and methods are noted. Information on testing the transformers is encapsulated. The student members are divided into 2 teams and well experienced engineers are allotted to each group.
