Our team of teachers, who have been actively engaged in the project focused on democracy, is pleased to announce the completion of the pilot testing phase. As part of this process, we have diligently collected and compiled a comprehensive set of outcomes that highlight the effectiveness of the methods implemented.
These outcomes serve as a valuable resource and provide valuable insights into the impact of the project on pupils' understanding of democracy and their ability to actively participate in democratic processes. We believe that these findings will contribute significantly to the advancement of democratic education.
We are excited to share our findings with a broader audience and will be presenting our collection of outcomes at the upcoming final conference. This conference serves as a platform for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and best practices in the field of democracy education.
Through this presentation, we aim to inspire and empower other educators to incorporate similar methodologies into their teaching practices. By disseminating our findings, we hope to foster a culture of democracy and active citizenship within educational institutions across the region.
We extend our gratitude to all the participants, pupils, and colleagues who have contributed to the success of this project. Your commitment and dedication have been instrumental in the positive outcomes achieved.
We look forward to sharing our experiences and engaging in fruitful discussions at the final conference. Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact on the promotion and development of democracy education.
The children and Gabriela first talked about Bethlehem, we created a mind map, and together we shared ideas of what ours could be like (made of paper, dough, gingerbread...) The whole class had to work on it. We decided on a live scene, and everyone thought of which figure they would like to represent in the Bethlehem scene. They drew a picture of their character and what costume they should wear. In cooperation with their parents, the children then prepared their costumes. We made a video of a live performance, which was projected in the school corridor - at an exhibition together with other Bethlehems.
Our Bethlehem was awarded, and the class received a reward value of 1000 Czech crowns.
November in Kindergarten ZŠ a MŠ Chýně - we introduced the independent preparation of snacks with the children (the children have the spread in a bowl and spread it on their own bread, yogurts and porridge themselves from a larger bowl) and we are also successful in serving lunches independently.
The school kitchen came to our aid and supplies us with smaller food containers, from which the children take their own portion of lunch. Everything is going wonderfully, no one has gone hungry yet and the children are extremely clever.
We are attaching a few photos for better imagination.
A team of 7 teachers from preschool and primary school in Chýně traveled to the partner schools in Iceland for one week in September.
Proud to introduce "Travel diary around Iceland"...the proof of an extraordinary study visit in such a beautiful country (in Czech language only, but google can help you :))
Czech Republic - Preparatory Class from ZŠ a MŠ Chýně is doing the first little steps in pilot testing of the methodology.
Iceland map - we start with introducing Iceland island to the children at the Preparatory class. Our Iceland map shows all the wonders we can observe here.
We start with the scheduling of the next month - "Moderator of the day". This works great, pupils are very excited and they look forward to their turn to come. They feel the importance of their moment.
The Mind Map is another tool we use and compare at the beginning of the week as well as at the end.
Czech Republic - Our preschool class ZŠ a MŠ Chýně also started with the first steps in pilot testing of experiences gained during the study visit to Iceland. We began with mind maps and moderator of the day concept.
Our kindergarten children, together with their teacher Martina, tried another example of good practice that inspired our team during a partnership visit to Iceland. We have boxes marked with letters of the alphabet, and children insert different objects or pictures and drawings that start with the same letter into it. The boxes are thus slowly being filled and children learn new words and enlarge their vocabulary.
A group of teachers involved in the EEA project participated in a virtual workshop, where they listened carefully and then discussed and shared their observations with partners from Iceland today. During the morning and afternoon workshop, there were a lot of experiences presented and a lot of inspiring ideas were said, we are focusing on the implementation of those in our environment. We look forward to the conditions finally allowing our colleagues to visit us. Hopefully in the spring.
Message from our teacher Hanka:
We tried to apply a great idea of Mind Maps from Rjupnahaed to our class, Foxes, at the end of February. We planned a carneval in our kindergarten and as we wanted to be more creative and independent, we tried to produce our own costumes.
Furthermore, we used mind maps for thinking about what carnival means for us, what type of costumes can we create, what we WANT to be.
Once every child had an idea, we created a design. Thereafter, we started with coloring t-shirts that children brought from home.
After that, there was a time for finalizing our costumes! It was great fun, and we also learned that we CAN do it by ourselves! We ended up our work with carnival - everyone loved its own costume and was proud of it, and that was the main point of our project.
There was an online meeting between the teacher of the preparatory class in the Chýně primary school, Gabriela, and two teachers from the Leikskollin kindergarten Unnur and Heiða last week. They talked about the book they use in kindergarten (LUPI BOOK). Gabriela would really love to create something similar. The biggest sense is visible for pre-school groups. She found out how he works with the book, and what is the meaning of pictures and texts.
The idea is to make at least A3 posters similarly within our project team. It could then be used as project output. It could be downloadable for a sum of money, and it could be laminated and provided to our school departments.
At the same time, it could be offered to kindergartens with an explanation of its meaning and how to work with it.
