FINAL CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS CAN BE FOUND HERE
Preparations for the upcoming Pupil's Parliaments Conference on May 24th, 2023 at Základní škola a Mateřská škola Chýně are in full swing.
The conference program has been meticulously crafted to serve as a source of inspiration for both inexperienced and seasoned pupil's parliaments. The primary objective of the conference is to showcase the results of the international project, "Implementation of a Democratic Educational Environment and Competencies for Democratic Culture in Kindergartens and Primary Schools in the Czech Republic and Iceland", which was spearheaded by our institution and was subsidized by the EEA Funds. It is worth noting that our student parliament played a crucial role in the implementation of this project.
We aim to showcase the inspiration behind our teachers and their implementation of democratic principles in education within our Icelandic kindergartens. A keynote speaker, the headmistress of an Icelandic kindergarten, Hrönn Valentínusdóttir, will elucidate the fundamental concepts underpinning the education system of her institution. Additionally, members of our pupil's parliament will provide a concise overview of our parliamentary activities and showcase the Guidelines they have formulated. Our 9th-grade student representatives, responsible for adapting the Icelandic game, "The City," to our school setting and facilitating a simulated work experience for our classmates, will also be in attendance.
Following the lunch break, ample opportunities will be provided to exchange ideas and queries pertaining to specific methodologies and projects. Our colleagues, fellows, ninth-grade students, and esteemed guests from Iceland will be available to impart their valuable insights and experiences relating to the project in its entirety. Moreover, a comprehensive display of outputs and photographs will be arranged. All pertinent details can be found on the attached flyer.
Our objective is to foster a democratic culture within educational institutions and facilitate the active participation of students in the school and broader community. To this end, we have implemented the parliamentary system as a means of gradually effecting positive change. Over the course of a two-year project, we have had the opportunity to study perceptions of democracy in diverse cultures.
SITE A - RJUPNAHAED'S PHILOSOPHY
As a seasoned educator with over 20 years of experience, our key speaker, Ms. Hrönn Valentínusdóttir will be speaking at the upcoming conference on behalf of Rjúpnahaed. In her first appearance, she will be discussing the history of our school and how our cooperation with partner schools began. She will also touch on the vision for this project and the importance of collaboration in achieving our goals.
Later in the day, she will be presenting a slide show that will cover a range of topics, including our kindergarten philosophy tree, the use of mind maps in teaching, and the significance of teamwork and cooperation. She will also discuss the process of making changes to our approach to teaching and the importance of patience when working with children. The presentation will include videos showcasing some of our teaching methods, including the weather reporter, friend game, animal book project, and carnival celebrations.
Throughout the conference, she will be available to speak with interested parents and visitors during the tea and cookies break. If you're interested in learning more about our teaching philosophy and methods, please stop by for a chat. Translation support will be provided throughout the day, and all presentations and videos will be displayed on an interactive board during the breaks. We look forward to sharing our approach to education with you all.
As part of our collaboration with Iceland, we committed to adapting one of their methodologies to our local context. We chose to create a city called The City Chýně, where ninth graders will assume the roles of business leaders and owners for a week, while sixth and seventh graders will be their employees. The objective is to give younger students an opportunity to practice managing money and functioning in a work environment. The ninth graders will be responsible for organizing, managing, employing, preparing project documentation, and presenting their work at a conference in May. This project is based on a Finnish model that has been successfully implemented in Iceland, and we hope to follow suit. Our plan is to repeat this event every year, with the participation of all six grades.
The event will kick off on Monday, April 17th. On that day, we will prepare the premises, and ninth graders from the third lesson will be involved. Each subsequent day, a different class will act as employees from 9 am to 12 pm. Before they begin, the rules will be explained, and then they will participate in the work. Afterward, there will be an evaluation and lunch. We will use the second floor of the school building to create 17 companies and their establishments.
Since this is a new project, we do not have any prior experience with it, and we hope for your understanding. The school will feature a real café, bakery, casino, IT game room, and gym. Everyone is welcome to come and have a drink and enjoy these amenities. There will also be some play money available for teachers stored in the staff room.
