🏯 Takashima Castle

Often referred to as the "Floating Castle" due to its original location on a peninsula extending into Lake Suwa, the castle is surrounded by moats that enhance its enchanting appearance. Built in the late 16th century by Takashima Tomonobu, a retainer of the prominent daimyo Takeda Shingen, the castle played a significant role during the Sengoku period.

Although much of the original structure was destroyed during the Meiji Restoration, the main keep was reconstructed in the 1970s. Today, Takashima Castle serves as a museum, offering visitors insight into its storied past and providing stunning views of Lake Suwa and the surrounding mountains. The castle grounds, especially during cherry blossom season, are a popular spot for hanami, or flower viewing, making it a cherished cultural landmark in Suwa City.
