Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Self Assessment
7O) effectively uses appropriate technologies to conduct assessments, monitor performance, and assess student progress
This connects to standard 7O by using self assessments and videos to monitor student performance. During our fitness unit, students will use this squat form video checklist as a guide in order to assess themselves after performing the required action. This is very helpful for students to correct their own mistakes and then as a teacher, I can provide additional feedback once the work is submitted. I have learned that by allowing the students to record themselves during their workout, they notice certain actions that they do which may need to be corrected. This allows them to visually see it and then it turn, understand how to fix it for the next time.
Tennis Quiz
7K) appropriately uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to evaluate the understanding, progress, and performance of an individual student and the class as a whole
This connects to standard 7K by using appropriate assessments at the end of our units to check student progress and understanding. This was a group quiz for my Junior Leadership class at the end of our tennis unit. This allows me as a teacher to see who understands the material and who may need additional support.
