Standard 5 - Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
Assign roles in a group setting
5K) varies his or her role in the instructional process as instructor, facilitator, coach, or audience in relation to the content and purposes of instruction and the needs of students
Assigning roles for the students connects to standard 5K by giving them a sense of purpose, responsibility, and understanding of content within the classroom. Within our Junior Leadership class, we rotate roles each month for the students. When its their time, the students will be in charge of the warm up for the class, setting up any game/activity, and helping the teacher. This gets the students ready to be a senior leader and confident enough to fulfill the duties within that position. I have learned that by giving the students such responsibility, they respect you more as a teacher because they get a glimpse of what we do on an everyday basis and how hard our job may be at times.
Heart rate monitors
5N) uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student
Heart rate monitors connect to standard 5N by using technology to enhance the students learning. When the students use the heart rate monitors, they get to see what color zone they were in throughout the class. Afterwards, the students will each get an email with their performance data. This helps the students keep track of their personal fitness goals. I have learned that using the heart rate monitors help to motivate the students by pushing themselves to achieve a higher goal each time they wear them.
