Classroom rules
3H) establishes high expectations for each student’s learning and behavior
Classroom rules connect to standard 3H by establishing a structured and supportive learning environment. It is our job as teachers to ensure that we have differentiated instruction, while promoting an inclusive and conducive atmosphere for all students. I have learned that rules help keep students responsible for their learnng, it keeps the classroom flow aligned within the building, and most importantly it keeps the students safe.
Mindfulness activities related to social/emotional differences
3C) understands cultural, linguistic, cognitive, physical, and social and emotional differences, and considers the needs of each student when planning instruction
Standard 3C connects to the mood meter by creating an outline for my students to share how they are feeling. This helps me as a teacher when students do not feel like talking or expressing their emotions. Students can just say what color they are feeling, or point to an emotion and then as a teacher, I can get a glimpse of how they are doing that day. I have learned how important it is to understand how your students are doing mentally and emotionally. Mindfulness can play a factor in how engaged they are in class which in turn can have an affect on their participation and grade.
